Did you know that one of Canada’s earliest Indigenous civil rights demonstrations took place right here in Kenora?

On May 1, 1965, hundreds of Indigenous people and supporters marched through the streets of Kenora to protest discrimination and unequal treatment experienced by First Nations people throughout the region. The march brought attention to issues many Indigenous families faced at the time, including barriers to employment, housing, education, and equal access to services.

More than 60 years later, that march remains an important reminder of the resilience, strength, and determination of Indigenous people who stood up for fairness, dignity, and recognition of their rights.

As an Indigenous-owned company working throughout Treaty #3 territory, we are proud to recognize National Indigenous History Month by reflecting on the people, stories, and events that have helped shape our communities. We are grateful for the relationships we have built with First Nations throughout Northwestern Ontario and remain committed to supporting community growth, opportunity, and prosperity for future generations.

Progress is underway on a new subdivision in Wauzhushk Onigum Nation.

From land clearing, road construction, civil works and septic systems, to foundations and finished homes, this is the type of project Solid Construction is built for. We take pride in delivering the infrastructure and housing that support growing communities and create opportunities for future generations.

We’re proud to be part of this development and look forward to seeing the subdivision come to life upon completion.

Another home completed in Wauzhushk Onigum Nation this week.

The best part of what we do is knowing that behind these projects is a family who will build memories, find comfort, and create a future within these walls.

Built to be safe, durable, and welcoming — with strong foundations for future generations.

Respect to all the trades out there this week. Here’s to hoping the tools and equipment stay running, and the coffee stays hot.
Stay warm out there folks! 🥶
