There are two significant construction projects still in progress along the Trent-Severn Waterway in Peterborough and the Kawarthas which are the replacement of Scotts Mills Dam at Lock 19 in Peterborough and the swing bridge replacement at Lock 32 in Bobcaygeon. Environmental Construction Innovation: ArcelorMittal recently partnered with the Government of Ontario to plan for a CAD$1.8 billion dollar investment in decarbonisation technologies at ArcelorMittal Dofasco’s plant in Hamilton. The investment will reduce annual CO2 emissions at ArcelorMittal’s Hamilton, Ontario operations by approximately 3 million tonnes. At the heart of the plan is a 2.5 million tonne capacity DRI facility and an EAF facility capable of producing 2.4 million tonnes of high-quality steel through its existing secondary metallurgy and secondary casting facilities. A new esports and entertainment venue The Exhibition Place project recently secured lease terms approval from Toronto City Council in December. Project leaders are now preparing their site plan application, which includes 10-15 studies covering everything from environment and traffic to archeology. The hope is to get the go-ahead by Labour Day and the venue build is expected to last 30 months, with a completion date in the summer of fall of 2025. The budget for the overall project is said to be around $400 million for the entertainment venue and hotel. While the performance venue and hotel are one construction project the two are separate entities in terms of ownership.
