More progress on our rammed earth walls! As you can see we've "slipped" the forms up the wall revealing the previous layers, allowing us to see the raw and natural look of these walls that are sure to be stunning when they reach their full height. Rammed earth walls give an earthy and natural look, combining modern construction practice with ancient building methods that builders have been using for 1000s of years. We are so excited to see these beautiful walls continue to grow and can't wait for share more of the process in the coming weeks!

We trust you are all having a wonderful weekend surrounded by friends and family and taking time to reflect on all that we have to be grateful for. We're thankful to live and work in this incredible place alongside so many great clients and trade partners, we truly love what we do, where we get to do this work, and who we get to work alongside of. We hope you enjoy this day of rest, and we'll see you back on the jobsite this week with more exciting updates from our projects around the Okanagan valley!

Final push before this beautiful home reno goes back into the hands of some amazing clients! This project has brought so much life and characters back into this family home. The original hardwood was preserved and refinished by Okanagan Hardwood Flooring along with the interior tile and flooring in the downstairs suite, all new cabinets by Rob Wall, floating deck tile by Jason Mitchell, and paint by Straight Edge Painting Inc.. This project is wrapping up wonderfully and we can't wait to turn this home back over to a family that will enjoy it anew for years to come!

We're excited for share more about this fun renovation we've been working on, but these doors simply needed a moment of their own!

Some rammed earth progress by Innovative Earth on this custom home overlooking Kelowna! In case you didn't catch our last post: rammed earth is an ancient building method used by builders for thousands of years. A mixture of sand, cement, water, and pigment is placed into the forms and compacted into dense layers creating a strong, solid, and beautiful structure. Unlike modern concrete that can be poured quickly from a truck or a pump, rammed earth is a practice that takes time and intentionality, and the reward for that effort is something that is beautiful, unique, and honors the history of human innovation and creativity in our pursuit of building a place to call "home". As the layers set up and harden, the forms are simply raised up the wall and new layers are laid down and the wall continues to climb higher and higher. In a world where everything is instant and optimized, sometimes slowing down and experiencing the process slowly reminds us to appreciate the human spirit and determination to take the raw materials of the world around us and use them to build beautiful things!

Taking a look back at this incredible renovation of a 1960s home that went far beyond just updating the look of the home and property. The goal behind this project was preserve a timeless and classic design while doing a complete energy efficiency retro-fit, to not only to get this home to meet modern efficiency standards, but to surpass them. Projects like this create unique and challenging opportunities for our team to combine design, efficiency, function, and longevity, which we pursue with excellence and integrity. Taking a look at some of our favorite outdoor spaces that we've had the opportunity to create over the years. We're so fortunate to live in the Okanagan, so when it comes to designing custom homes in a region known for its incredible summers, your outdoor space needs to be a reflection of who you are just as much as your interior spaces. From beautiful pools with breathtaking views to long tables to gather around with friends and family, building beautiful spaces that make you feel at home outside is one of the many things we love about what we do!

One of the most exciting parts of building custom homes is the opportunity to incorporate unique and special design elements into our projects. For this custom home we're building rammed earth walls, an ancient construction method brought into our modern age. Unlike traditional concrete walls, rammed earth is accomplished by creating a precise mixture of sand, cement, water, and different colored pigments and tamping it down in multiple layers to create a beautiful and earthy final product that honors the human ingenuity and creativity that has gone into building for 1000s of years. The process certainly takes more time than traditional concrete forming, but the results are sure to make the process worthwhile. Make sure to follow along as this process unfolds in the coming weeks!

Some big updates on this custom renovation in West Kelowna! Exterior stucco, cabinets, and tile are all complete and we are one step closer as we move through the finishing stages. This has been a very fun project bringing new life, energy, and function into this family home!

Thank you to all the brave men and woman fighting these fires on the ground and in the air. It's been a very intense week in the Okanagan and we are deeply appreciative of the tireless work of all those involved in the effort to get these fires under control. We know many have come from far away to assist in the effort, which is a great reminder that, when it comes to this world we all share, we are all neighbors and neighbors take care of each other. Our hearts are also with those who have been evacuated and are trying to navigate the chaos and uncertainty of this time. Please reach out to your evacuated friends and see how you can support them, and take some time to find and share local resources and businesses working to serve and assist those affected by these fires. May we all can stay safe, stay smart, and stay supportive in the coming weeks.
