Core aeration is one of the most effective things you can do for a lawn that looks tired, thin, or struggles to hold moisture during Okanagan summers. The process pulls small plugs of soil from the turf, opening up channels that allow water, air, and nutrients to reach the root zone directly. Compacted soil is one of the main reasons lawns develop shallow roots and dry out quickly. Aeration corrects that. In the Okanagan, the best window for cool-season grass is late summer into early fall, when the grass is still actively growing and can fill in quickly. July heat hits irrigation systems hard. If your lawn is showing dry patches despite regular watering, the first thing to check is your controller schedule. Run times that worked in May are not enough when temperatures climb into the 30s. Most systems need 20 to 30 percent more run time in peak summer heat, and early morning watering before 7am cuts evaporation significantly.
