The long weekend was spent searching for this road.

The extent of the damage out here is hard to put into words. The photos don’t even come close to showing what it really looks like. Our first step was determining whether the road was even still there.

What the photos can’t show is that we had to dig more than six feet down just to find the original road surface. It really puts into perspective the force of the water and the destruction it left behind.

The landscape has been changed forever, and there is still a tremendous amount of work ahead before this road is fully restored. One step at a time, we’re making progress.

Another road repaired and reopened.

This one is a temporary repair while we wait for larger culverts to arrive. We were unable to reuse the existing culvert to restore access as it was heavily damaged during the washout. We had to install a much smaller culvert which is only a short-term solution. Once the new culverts are in, we’ll be back to complete a permanent repair.

Today we successfully reopened the north end of the Runnymede dump road. This one came with its challenges, as the water was still flowing pretty good through the creek. It took a little extra time, patience, and the knowledge that comes from years of operating equipment, but we were able to get it built exactly the way we wanted.

Now it’s time to head to the next road repair. One step closer to getting these roads back where they need to be.

Another washout has been repaired and safe access has been restored.

This one required a little extra work, as the force of the water had carried the culvert nearly 70 feet down the creek. We first had to locate and retrieve it before bringing it back into place and completing the road repairs.

It’s another example of just how much damage the recent water has caused, but we are continuing to work through each location one at a time. Now we’re off to the next one.

This small creek normally runs at little more than a trickle year-round, aside from the spring runoff. But during the major storm we experienced, it came roaring over its banks and caused an incredible amount of damage.

The force of the water carved out its own channel, took out SaskPower lines, water lines and SaskTel lines, and washed away nearly half of this yard. As you can see in the photos, the shop was only metres away from being washed away as well.

We were able to restore temporary access to the road, but there is still a lot of work ahead to properly repair the damage and rebuild the area in the future.

This washout took some work just to gain access. We had to carefully work our way in before we could even get the equipment where it needed to be.

The people in this valley have been trapped for the past 8 days, so restoring access has been a top priority. We have been working hard to give them a safe way out as quickly as possible.

We’re down to just a few final touches in the morning, but we’re happy to say they now have safe access in and out.

Today we were able to get another road repaired in the R.M. of Cote No. 271.

There are still many roads left to repair, and we’re working as quickly as possible to get them reopened. Unfortunately, some areas remain flooded, and until the water recedes and the current is no longer raging, there is simply no safe way for us to get our equipment in and begin repairs.

This storm has been devastating for so many people and has caused significant damage throughout the area. We know how difficult and frustrating it has been for everyone affected, and our thoughts are with those dealing with the aftermath.

A couple of pictures from the start of this project! It took a little longer than planned thanks to all the rainstorms, but we finally got it wrapped up.

On this one we built the shop pad, did some electrical trenching, graded the shop floor, and completed the final grading around the outside.

We’re really happy with how this project turned out.

Here’s another road repair project we completed over the weekend. We worked hard to get this section repaired and back into good condition, ensuring safe and reliable access for those who use it every day.
