Most people see how it's always been done. Some people see how it could be done better. Nikki's the second kind.
On her site, the scope meant moving multiple loads of 50lbs+ in. She noticed the way it was being handled made it harder than it needed to be. That's how the job had always run, and most of us would have kept running it that way. Nikki Little looked at it differently. Seeing a problem worth solving rather than a routine worth repeating, she brought it forward the same day with a solution already worked out. That solution is in use now, and it's made the work safer and faster for the crew.
Good ideas come from the people doing the work, because they're the ones who feel where a process is costing them. Nikki brings that same attention to everything else she notices on site, and when her supervisor is off shift, she's at the Foreman's meeting making sure the crew starts the day lined up on what the work needs.
That's judgment, and it's why Nikki is our September Safety Leader of the Month. She received a heated Milwaukee vest, which should get some use with the weather turning. Every one of our monthly safety awards is paid for by our site recycling program, so the crews are effectively funding their own recognition.
Thanks for the work you do, Nikki.
If you've found a better way out there, bring it forward. That's how the work gets better for everybody.
