Every step counts. Every step gives back. đź’š

Jeremy Buchner from Acres and Marisa Bertoli from the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation joined CFJC Midday today to talk about our “Acres Steps Up for Mental Health” campaign and why mental health awareness matters so much - especially in construction.

What started as a team step challenge has turned into something much bigger:
👟 Over 3.5 million steps logged
đź’š Funds being raised for local mental health care
đź—Ł Important conversations happening along the way

In construction, there’s often pressure to “push through” without talking about struggles. We want to help open the door to more honest conversations and remind people that asking for support is strength - not weakness.

Huge thanks to CFJC Midday for having us on today and helping spread awareness during Mental Health Awareness Month.

Please join us in celebrating Mitchell Frost on officially becoming a Red Seal Certified Carpenter!

Mitchell has officially earned his Red Seal Certification, marking an exciting milestone in his carpentry career and recognizing the experience, hard work, and knowledge he’s built throughout the years.

For Mitchell, the journey was about more than writing an exam. After spending years in the trade, stepping back into “school mode” came with its challenges, but also gave him the opportunity to look at the work from a new perspective and continue building on the skills he’s developed throughout his career.

"It feels amazing to have accomplished this. After being in the trade for so long, earning my Red Seal makes everything feel official, like all the experience and hard work has really come together. I’ve had a lot of support along the way, and I’m excited for what’s next."

Mitchell is already looking ahead to his next goal: he has officially started his journey toward CCA Gold Seal Certification.

We’re proud of the dedication Mitchell has shown and excited to see where his journey takes him next.

Congratulations, Mitchell!

Motherhood comes in many forms - and today, we honour them all.

To moms, stepmoms, foster moms, expecting moms, grieving moms, chosen moms, caregivers, mentors, and fur, feather, and scale moms - thank you for the love, care, and support you give so freely. From the bottom of our hearts, we celebrate you today.

Acres wouldn't be the same without the incredible women and mothers that we work alongside. We are so proud to have leaders and role models who inspire, show up, and deeply care on our team.

Happy Mother's Day to the resilient, supportive, everyday heroes paving the way to bright tomorrows - we see you and all that you do!

Moving with purpose to support the wellbeing of our bodies, our communities, and our industry. 👟💚

The memories from these two incredible charity runs are still going the distance with us, so let’s take a walk back through some amazing community moments our Kamloops and Kelowna teams were proud to be part of in April.

The Acres Kamloops team took in Boogie The Bridge for our 5th year! We were so excited to celebrate movement with our community, and support this year's charity efforts towards the Kamloops Therapeutic Riding Association in the process.

Our Kamloops team members weren't the only ones stepping up to get involved! Last Saturday, the Acres Kelowna team collaborated with our friends at Southern Interior Construction Association - SICA to take part in Kamloops Steps for Life. Putting safety in the spotlight to prevent workplace tragedies and offering support to those who have been affected by them is so important - not just to us, but to our entire industry.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in taking strides towards a healthier, happier, and safer community!

A lot happens before equipment ever arrives on site.

Conversations. Planning. Coordination. Questions that need answering.

The best projects usually start the same way: with people sitting down together early, talking honestly about challenges, timelines, risks, and goals.

At Acres, we’ve learned that strong communication at the beginning makes everything stronger down the line.

It helps teams adapt faster.
It helps projects move smoother.
And it helps build trust that lasts beyond a single job.

That’s the kind of work we value just as much as what happens on site.

Big Macs, big hearts, and one pretty incredible day. ❤️🍟

Yesterday, our Acres teams in Kamloops and Kelowna spent the day volunteering for McHappy Day - helping at local McDonald’s restaurants, delivering burgers to all of our sites and offices, and supporting Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).

From drive-thru shifts and headset duty to jobsite lunch deliveries, the day was full of great people, lots of laughs, and a whole lot of community spirit.

This one is always a favourite for our team, and we’re thankful to McDonald’s for letting us be part of such an important day again this year.

Getting students into the seat to see what’s possible - that’s what Heavy Metal Rocks is all about.

A couple of weeks ago, we once again had the opportunity to be part of the Heavy Metal Rocks program - a hands-on initiative that provides Grade 11 and 12 students from Kamloops-Thompson School District 73 the chance to operate heavy equipment and exploring potential career paths in the industry.

A huge thank you to our Business Innovation Manager, Chad Kyllo and Asset Manager, Paul Bregoliss, who continue to share their time and industry expertise to mentor the next generation of heavy equipment professionals.

The ongoing collaboration of dedicated volunteers, local businesses, and community partners is what makes this program such a success year after year.

All in, together.

At the end of the day, safety comes down to people.

Looking out for each other on site.
Speaking up when something doesn’t feel right.
Checking in - because not everything you carry is visible.

Physical safety matters. It always has.
But so does psychological safety - feeling supported, respected, and heard.

That’s what we’re working to build at Acres.

Being recognized as a BC Builder’s Code Workplace Culture Champion means a lot, but more than anything, it reflects how our teams show up for each other every day.

Because safety isn’t just about preventing incidents.
It’s about looking out for each other, so everyone gets home safe and okay.

We’re excited to share that Acres Steps Up for Mental Health is officially live.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and it’s a reminder of how important it is to take care of ourselves and look out for each other - especially in industries like construction, where the challenges are real.

What started as a simple step challenge has grown into something more meaningful.

This month, our team is getting active and stepping up to support mental health care through the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation, right here in one of the communities we’re fortunate to be part of.

• Moving together
• Raising awareness
• Giving back

For every 5,000 steps logged by our team this May, Acres will donate $1 to the RIH Foundation - so every step helps make a difference.

We’re stepping up with a goal to raise $10,000 for mental health care in our community.

Inspiring tomorrow’s women in trades.

Acres was proud to once again support the Jill of All Trades event at Okanagan College, an initiative that empowers young women to explore rewarding careers in the skilled trades and technology sectors.

More than 150 Grade 11 and 12 students participated in hands-on workshops, gaining practical experience and a view into the vast possibilities awaiting them in trades and technology.

We are especially proud of our own Melanie Atwater, Red Seal Carpenter and Project Coordinator at Acres, who served as a mentor in the Joinery workshop. Melanie, pictured in the first photo, shared her expertise, encouragement, and leadership to help inspire the next generation in trades.

Thank you to Brogan Fire & Safety and Honeywell for partnering with Acres to provide safety glasses for participants, and to Okanagan College, mentors, sponsors, and community partners for creating such a positive and impactful experience!
