A pumping station with more than 100 years of history is getting ready for its next chapter.

Originally constructed in 1910, the Scarborough Pumping Station has evolved from an intake and treatment plant into a critical part of Toronto’s drinking water system.

Today, ASCO is delivering a seven-phase rehabilitation that includes a new 5-million-litre surge tank, upgrades to the existing facility, reservoir modifications, and new watermain connections—all while working within an operating water infrastructure environment.

The goal is to renew an important piece of Toronto’s water system while preserving its ability to serve the community well into the future.

We're nearing completion of the Pikwakanagan Primary Health Care Facility.

This new space is dedicated to health, wellness, and community in Pikwakanagan—a 4,000 sq. ft. medical centre designed to support both healthcare services and community wellness.

The facility includes medical treatment areas, physiotherapy space, patient rooms, wellness programming, training spaces, and thoughtfully designed waiting areas that create a welcoming environment for patients, families, and staff.

Built on a challenging site with complex underground conditions, the project required careful planning, innovative solutions, and close collaboration from start to finish.

We're grateful to be contributing to a project that will serve the Pikwakanagan community for years to come.

We're pleased to have been awarded the renovation of employee facilities at IVACO's Rod Mill and Melt Shop in L'Orignal.

To be completed in two phases, the project includes upgrades to lunchrooms, cafeterias, washrooms, locker rooms, HVAC systems, ceilings, flooring, finishes, and associated building systems. Following significant demolition, the renovated spaces will provide modern, functional environments for employees while supporting ongoing operations.

We appreciate the opportunity to work with IVACO and look forward to delivering another successful project.

Transforming a historic landmark while respecting its legacy.

ASCO led a major interior renovation of Kingston’s Grand Theatre, including the construction of a new 750-seat performance space with suspended balconies, an elevating orchestra pit, and state-of-the-art theatrical systems.

Through a phased construction approach and careful selective demolition, two complex project phases were seamlessly integrated into one coordinated delivery — preserving the building’s heritage while modernizing its performance capabilities.

Michael Assal has spent more than 35 years helping bring complex construction projects to life, across Canada and around the world.

Michael leads all pre-construction activities at ASCO, working closely with clients, consultants, and trade partners from the earliest stages of a project, helping turn ideas into solutions. His experience spans business strategy, estimating, design-build, quality management, and project development.

Michael is also recognized for his work on high-performance buildings, including the award-winning Salus project, the first multi-unit residential building in North America to achieve International Passive House Institute (PHI) certification.

His depth of experience, collaborative approach, and commitment to doing things right make him an invaluable part of the ASCO team.
