HVAC what you need to know

HVAC what you need to know What you need to know before you purchase an HVAC system for your home, business or property. We will save you money on your next H.V.A.C. purchase.

We are a consulting firm that will inspect your current system and determine what you really need and make recommendations. More importantly we listen to the client to understand your needs and budget. From residential homes to apartment buildings, strip malls and businesses. I have been in this industry for over 30 years and I am amazed by how little consideration people give to replacing H.V.A.C

equipment. Your HVAC system will be in your home for the next
15 - 20 years and is a major purchase. I have seen quotes ranging from $2,000.00 - $7,000.00 to replace a furnace in a home. The first question I would ask is why such a difference. Two companies quoting the same furnace at the same house should not have that big of a difference on price. Another major purchase most people make is an automobile, how long did you take to decide on which car you wanted? did you shop around? how long will that new car last? did you get the best price? People in general spend a lot more time purchasing a car than a furnace. There are many manufactures of furnace and air conditioners out there. which is the best product? Do i need I.A.Q. (indoor air quality) equipment? how much should I pay? what about financing? how long is the warranty? should I get extended warranty? whats involved with the installation? all these questions and more will be answered. Become a more informed consumer and get what you need for the best price.

Attention customers of the big rental companies:
Almost daily people call me with the same story.
On annual inspection or during service call the technician informs the customer of "high CO readings" or "cracked heat exchanger" and the furnace needs to be turned off If your furnace is less than 20 years old I would strongly recommend a second opinion. many times i have gone in and found no problems. CO readings in the flue gas of a high efficiency furnace may be up to 200PPM which is acceptable, 400PPM is the acceptable rate on a Cat. 1 furnace although it should be cleaned if it is higher than 50PPM. Ask to see results of tests. Most of the modern test equipment we use today has the ability to print results with time and date stamps. Check time and date stamps to make sure it is from your furnace.
Do not give in to high pressure sales tactics.

Buying equipment outright is always the best way to go.
Always follow these directions when buying new Equipment.
1, Dont buy off people knocking on your door.
2, Call a reliable HVAC company.
3, Get three quotes.

Signing on to a long-term rental agreement for your furnace or other unities could end up costing you in the long run. Pat Foran reports.

I would like some feedback from people on your water heaters, do you own or rent? Tank style water heaters are only found in north america, the rest of the world uses tankless or point of use. Most people rent water heaters wich is beyond my comprehension why. If you do the math your rental unit costs $4,000.00 or more, A HVAC or plumbing company can supply and install a water heater for a quarter of the price. You can also finance the install which takes away the argument of low monthly cost veres paying up front for the unit. and as far as the argument of "I dont have to pay for repairs" goes the $3,000.00 you save will cover alot of repairs and you can also get a 10 year extended warranty from the installer. With the new technolagy in condensing tankless water heaters I think its time to start rethinking rentals. For more info on how to stop getting ripped off by the rental companies call. Hot Water Guy. Another HVAC scam.
if someone comes to your door claiming to be from the government asking to see your heating equipment and they need to put a inspection sticker on don't let them in. The only one who needs to see your equipment is TSSA or your gas supplier.

Consider this fair warning. There is a company going around Hamilton offering a FREE HRV for your furnace if you switch energy providers. This is a scam!!! the "free" HRV ends up costing $6,000.00 and you pay more for hydro. Most older homes in Hamilton would not benefit from an HRV and if your home does need an HRV (Heat Recovery Ventilator) call a professional HVAC contractor like me. My friend was smart enough to call me before he signed. I had a conversation with the salesman, he had no clue of what an HRV was or what it did or how it operates. I don't think the salesman likes me after our conversation.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Toronto, ON,April30, 2013)

TSSA’s ongoing crackdown on unqualified fuel
contractors has netted one operating in the Greater Toronto Area

The Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto levied fines totaling $
5,500 against a fuels contractor for violating safety regulations under the Technical Standards and Safety Act, 2000

Fuels contractor Robert Brennan pled guilty to installing an
unapproved natural gas water heater at 1050 Birchmount
Road, Toronto (Vienna Fine Foods) and providing
false information, producing a false pressure test tag after a leak was detected. The gas company shut off gas while the owner had to hire another contractor to fix the deficiencies. Brennan was fined $5,500 plus the mandatory 25% victim surcharge for a total penalty of $6,875. Following investigations by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA), Ontario’s public safety
regulator responsible for fuels safety, Brennan pled guilty in court to contravening provincial safety regulations by installing an unapproved appliance and providing false information.

There are a lot of small contractors out there that do not follow the rules but what about the big contractors? I could post many stories from TSSA about the incidents they have also. So how do you know who to trust?

Carbon Monoxide

Most people have heard of carbon monoxide (CO) and know that it's dangerous. But it's often a mystery of where it comes from, how it's produced, its physical symptoms, and what precautions you can take to ensure it doesn't endanger you. Or worse, kill you.

Did you know it is mandatory to have your boiler inspected every year?
