Skyline Contracting is seeking an Exterior Building Maintenance Technician to join our team.

The role reports to the Skyline Headquarters each morning and dispatches from there in a company vehicle - travel is often within one hour of Skyline’s Headquarters.

The Technician should be well-versed in sloped and/or flat roofing systems. The Maintenance Technician performs hands-on repair, maintenance, and inspection work on exterior building systems — including roofing, siding, eavestroughs, soffit, fascia, and sealants.

The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in high-quality workmanship, and is comfortable working independently or as part of a small service team.

This role is focused on field ex*****on — the Technician will need to be comfortable climbing a 40 foot ladder, be certified (or willing to obtain) Working at Heights, and able to carry 50lbs.

If you sit on a condo board, save this post!

Default shingle warranties are often assumed to be long-term or “lifetime.” In condominium buildings, that’s rarely the case. Coverage is structured differently, and many boards don’t realize it until it’s too late.

This checklist breaks down what boards should be able to confidently answer before approving a shingle roofing project.

Our team spends a lot of time on roofs ... but solving the problem doesn’t always stop there.

On this call, it looked like clogged downspouts were the issue. Once we disconnected them, the water flow was clear. The real problem was underground.

A frozen French drain was backing water up into the system. We chipped away enough ice to restore temporary flow, but this one will need a proper underground cleanout in the spring to fully resolve it.

This is where preventative maintenance makes the difference. Installing a filter at the lowest connection allows for easy access, routine cleanouts, and helps prevent debris from building up in underground pipes in the first place.

If something doesn’t seem quite right with your drainage, having it looked at early can save a lot of trouble later.

Photo 1: A new plumbing fl**ge and membrane installed ... why would we need to do this?

Photo 2: Well, the homeowner noticed the door trim was swelling, meaning water was getting in somewhere.

Photo 3: Looking down, they noticed the hardwood floor was affected well.

Photo 4: An attic inspection revealed there was daylight shining through at the plumbing fl**ge. Once up on the roof, we could see the existing fl**ge was damaged, and allowing water to get into the attic.

Don't let small issues like this compound to bigger issues. Book your Attic Inspection with the Skyline Team today.
