🏃‍♀️💛 THIS SATURDAY: COME WITNESS HISTORY IN THE MAKING AND RUN FOR A GREAT CAUSE! 💛🏃‍♀️

Get ready for an incredible day of athletic achievement, community spirit, and giving back! Join ultrarunner Kat Clewley as she takes on an ambitious challenge to set a Guinness World Record for Fastest Female Retro Run 100K!

📍 Ray Lewis Track, Hamilton (Mohawk Sports Complex)
📅 This Saturday, October 17 | 9am - 5pm
💛 A record-breaking goal with a heart for the community!

Back in 2015, Kat () achieved an incredible retro-running marathon time of 4:48:42 in her attempt to set a Guinness World Record. Unfortunately, her GoPro batteries didn’t last long enough to capture the footage required for official verification. Now, she’s back and ready for redemption - with an even BIGGER challenge: 100 kilometres! 💪

As Kat puts it, “Rather than attempting another marathon, let’s go bigger! 100km!” I love that kind of tenacity!! GO KAT!

Here’s how YOU can be part of the excitement:

👟 Run just ONE LAP with Kat, and $1 will be donated to the Good Shepherd Steps to Health Program.
💛 Want to make an even bigger impact? You can also support her through the event’s QR code to support this valuable community program.

And the best part? It’s FREE and open to the public! Bring your friends and family to cheer Kat on, enjoy the atmosphere, and explore the on-site vendors and booths featuring coffee, local businesses, massage therapy, non-alcoholic beverages, and more!

🙌 Whether you come to run, cheer, explore, or show your support, your presence helps make this a memorable day for Hamilton and a wonderful cause.

✨ Let’s rally behind Kat, celebrate an extraordinary athletic challenge, and help make every lap count!

💧 Could Your Home Have a Lead Water Service Line? 💧

If your home was built before 1955, there may be a chance that your water service pipe contains lead. Approximately 20,000 Hamilton homes may have lead water service pipes connecting them to the municipal water supply.

Lead is a toxic metal, and exposure can be especially harmful to babies, young children, and pregnant women. Lead can enter drinking water when plumbing materials containing lead corrode.

This video gives you detailed information: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_ODlll9nyc

🏠 So, what can you do? 🏠

If you live in an older home:
• Check your water service pipe to determine its size and type.
• If you're unsure, contact Hamilton Water at 905-546-2489 to request a free Check Size and Type Inspection.
• If you rent, contact your landlord, superintendent, or property management company.
• The most effective way to remove lead from your drinking water is to replace the lead water service line.

🔧 Good to know: When the private portion of an eligible lead water service line is replaced, the City of Hamilton will replace the public portion of the pipe.

📞 Questions? Call 905-546-2489 to speak with Hamilton Water personnel.

Educate yourself. Protecting the quality of your drinking water starts with knowing what’s in your home’s plumbing.

🍁🍂 Happy Thanksgiving! 🍂🍁

Today as I reflect on all there is to be thankful for, I am filled with heartfelt gratitude for the many blessings we share.

I give thanks for our beautiful country, for the peace we are fortunate to experience, and for the opportunity to call Hamilton home. And on that note, I am especially grateful for our uniquely inspiring, resilient city and for the many incredible people who make our community strong.

Through times of challenge and change, our greatest strength continues to be one another, demonstrated by neighbours helping neighbours, families supporting families, and compassionate, generous people from all walks of life joining together, bringing hope to others.

May this Thanksgiving bring peace to your hearts, warmth to your homes, and time to cherish the people and blessings that matter most to you in this precious life.

From my family to yours, wishing each of you a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving. 🧡🍁🦃

I was deeply moved by the launch of this worthwhile Crime Stoppers of Hamilton initiative that took place in Lime Ridge Mall yesterday.

While youth crime is on the rise, young people have a new tool to help combat it.

Designed for young people with input from our community's youth, Crime Stoppers of Hamilton's "fearnot" offers an anonymous, safe, and secure way to report concerns such as bullying, threats, violence, gang and drug activity, hate incidents, illegal weapons, bear spray, distraction theft, smash and grabs, property and car theft, home invasions, illegal fi****ms, online exploitation, and other criminal occurrences.

Callers will not have to give their name or testify in court.

Speaking up can help prevent harm and protect our schools, neighbourhoods, and community. Sometimes, having a safe way to speak up can make all the difference.

Also: speaking up isn’t about being a “snitch" when something is wrong. It’s about being on the right side of things, looking out for one another, and helping build a safer Hamilton, which everyone deserves.

(If someone is in immediate danger or a crime is happening in real-time always call 911.)

I encourage parents, caregivers, educators, and young people to learn more about the program and share it with others who may benefit from knowing about it.

🚨 Hamilton Takes Action on E-Scooter Safety 🚨

Yesterday I presented a motion about e-scooters in Council, seconded by Ward 8 Councillor Rob Cooper, and am proud to share it received unanimous support. As a result, Council has directed City staff to take a closer look at electric scooter use and safety across our city, including:

📊 Review complaints, collisions, injuries, and locations with recurring safety concerns.
👮 Strengthen enforcement of age, helmet, and other e-scooter regulations.
📚 Increase public education for children, youth, parents and schools on safe and legal e-scooter use.
🚸 Explore increased enforcement in parks, trails, sidewalks, school zones, and other high-pedestrian areas.
🛴 Review existing regulations, including operating areas, parking, speed limits, signage, and enforcement.
🏛️ Engage the Province of Ontario on Hamilton’s experience and potential improvements to the provincial e-scooter pilot.
📋 Report back to Council with recommendations and any proposed by-law changes.

The goal: safer streets, trails, and public spaces for everyone. 🛴
