Snowy weather didn't stop us from completing the last two egress window installs this past week. We were also able to enhance the grading before the soil froze up on us!

It's carbon fiber Friday! Today's post is about a problem we see quite frequently.

A homeowner is performing a reno in the basement, and when the old stud walls are removed, they find that someone has removed a buttress.

But-tress = a projecting structure of masonry for support (in this case, a short block wall that sticks out 90 degrees from the foundation wall)

For this basement, we did not want to rebuild the buttress wall as it takes up floor space. Instead, we added some carbon fiber and steel pin reinforcements to support the soil loads and prevent this foundation from bowing inwardly.
