What actually happens during a full home renovation?

The finished photos only show the end result.

Before you get there, there's demolition, structural work, framing, rough-ins, inspections, material coordination, drywall and finishing — with multiple trades working through different stages of the project.

And once the walls are opened, that's often when you really find out what you're working with.

A successful renovation isn't just about how the home looks when it's finished. It's about properly managing everything that happens along the way — including the work you'll never see once the walls are closed.

Our latest article walks through the full renovation process, from the first stages of demolition to the final walkthrough.

The best renovation details are often the ones you never notice.

Straight tile lines. Clean flooring transitions. Cabinetry that lines up properly. Tight trim joints. Countertops, walls and finishes that meet exactly where they're supposed to.

When they're done right, your eye simply moves through the room. When they're done wrong, they can become the first thing you see.

This fireplace and TV wall is a great example. The tile was precisely cut to meet the finished flooring without using trim to hide the transition. It's a small detail in the overall renovation, but getting details like this right is what makes the finished space feel complete.

Friday's new blog looks at the renovation details homeowners may not consciously notice — until they're done wrong.

Not sure what you should renovate first?

For some homeowners, it’s the kitchen they use every day. For others, it’s a bathroom that no longer works for their routine, an underused basement, or an addition that gives their family the extra space they need.

The best place to start isn’t always the biggest project — it’s the one that will make the biggest difference in how you live in your home.

In today’s blog, we break down how to decide which renovation should come first: kitchen, bathroom, basement or addition.

As summer winds down, routines start to return — school schedules, workdays, activities, and more time spent at home.

And that return to routine often makes it much easier to notice what isn’t working in your home anymore.

Maybe the kitchen feels crowded during busy mornings. Maybe you need another bathroom, a more functional basement, better storage, or simply more space for your family.

Fall is one of the best times to start planning a renovation — even if construction isn’t happening right away.

In our latest blog, we’re sharing 7 reasons fall is the perfect time to start planning your home renovation, from identifying everyday problem areas to getting ahead on design, budgeting, permits, and contractor scheduling.

A good renovation can look beautiful.

A great renovation feels like every decision was made for a reason.

It’s not always about choosing more expensive materials. The difference often comes down to what happens long before the finishes are installed — layout, structure, lighting, transitions, proportions, coordination and the hundreds of small decisions made throughout construction.

In Friday’s blog, we’re looking at the decisions that separate a good renovation from a great one — and why thoughtful planning can have a bigger impact than simply spending more.

🔨 Planning before problems appear
🏠 Designing spaces that work together
📐 Thinking through the details before construction
✨ Building for the finished result, not just the next step

Why do some renovations just feel better the moment you walk into the room?

It’s rarely one feature.

It’s the way the cabinetry lines up. The lighting feels intentional. The flooring transitions cleanly. The trim is finished properly. And the materials, proportions and details all work together.

A beautiful renovation isn’t created by finishes alone. It’s the quality of the construction and craftsmanship behind those finishes that brings everything together.

Our latest blog looks at the details that separate a renovation that simply looks new from one that feels exceptionally well built.

Thinking about removing a load-bearing wall to open up your home?

What looks like a simple wall removal can actually involve much more behind the scenes.

The existing structure needs to be properly supported, the loads above need somewhere to go, and the new beam and posts need to safely transfer those loads all the way down to the foundation.

Our latest article explains what homeowners should know about:

• Determining whether a wall is load-bearing
• Structural engineering and permits
• LVL vs. steel beams
• Flush beams vs. dropped beams
• Temporary supports before demolition
• Posts, point loads and footings
• Electrical, plumbing and HVAC hidden in the wall
• Finishing the ceiling and flooring afterward

If you're considering opening up your kitchen, living room or main floor, understanding the structural side of the renovation is an important first step.

Are you using your home — or simply living around rooms that no longer work for you?

In 2026, homeowners are starting to rethink what the rooms in their homes are actually for.

The formal dining room that rarely gets used. The spare bedroom collecting boxes. The unfinished basement. The kitchen everyone gathers in but never seems to have enough room.

A great renovation isn't always about adding more square footage.

Sometimes it's about making the space you already have work better for the way you actually live.

In our latest article, we explore how homeowners are rethinking:

✓ Kitchens as gathering spaces
✓ Underused dining rooms
✓ Finished basements
✓ Intentional home offices
✓ Smarter built-in storage
✓ Mudrooms and entrances
✓ Primary suites
✓ Flexible, multi-purpose rooms

Your home doesn't necessarily need to be bigger. It needs to work better for you.
