With heavy rain and thunderstorms expected over the next couple of days, now is a great time to keep an eye on the trees around your home or business.

While strong winds may not be in the forecast, saturated ground from prolonged rainfall can weaken a tree’s root system, especially if the tree is already dead, diseased, or damaged. Thunderstorms can also bring localized gusts, lightning,that aren’t always reflected in the general forecast.

Watch for signs such as:

🌿 Cracked, broken, or hanging limbs
🍂 Exposed or lifting roots
🏡 Trees close to your home, vehicles, or power lines that may pose a risk

When wildfires happen, most buildings don't burn from direct flames. They ignite from embers.

That means the area right next to your house matters most. Here's where to start:
✅ Clear leaves, needles, and debris within 1–2 metres of your home
✅ Clean out your gutters. Dry debris is ready-made tinder for a single ember
✅ Move firewood at least 10 metres from your house
✅ Replace combustible mulch near your foundation with gravel or stone
