Foraging is something I love to do at any time, but this fall is incredible because there are so many mushrooms. It’s like stepping through the looking glass into Alice’s
Wonderland.

For the past month I’ve been foraging for black trumpets (Craterellus cornucopioides) and despite their dark, mysterious appearance, they bring the most incredible, rich aroma to my kitchen.

They are such an interesting mushroom, so difficult to see because they look just like a leaf and blend in with the forest floor. In French, they are hauntingly named trompettes des morts - trumpets of the dead – because of the belief that they grew where spirits had passed through the forest. They were believed to sprout at midnight within fairy rings, making superstitious foragers hesitant to gather them despite their delicious
flavour.

Our soaps start in the garden. We infuse the oils with herbs and flowers we grow ourselves, then hand pour each batch in our Fall River studio and finish it with dried petals and herbs.

Every soap comes in its own box with artwork by a local artist, so they are just as nice to give as they are to keep for yourself.

October is here, and the garden is starting to slow down. We are cutting the last of the herbs to hang and dry, picking apples and rose hips, and getting ready for the first frost.

It is the month for staying in a little more, lighting a candle a little earlier each evening, and letting the season settle in.

Recently I travelled to France where I was delighted to present a special bespoke candle to my friends who call the stunning Château de Roumégouse their home in Rignac, France.

To create this scent, I drew upon the history of the château, French
heritage, and local botanicals.

Creating a blend worthy of a French château was a dream come true.

Un peu de magie across the ocean.

A nocturnal garden where flowers and fireflies glow under the stars.

Midnight in the Potager is a sophisticated fragrance with bergamot and apple top notes and a heart of cassis and persimmon. This scent captures the quiet magic of the potager after the world has gone to sleep.
