You could almost call it cooperative gardening.

With all this rain it was a perfect time to do some last minute planting. Shrubby St John’s Wart was the perfect choice, adding yellow flowers in the summer and the most beautiful red berries in the fall. It works well in this part shade location.

After all the construction this garden is coming back to life. Even with poor soil conditions it is possible to grow some tough plants like Autumn Joy Sedum, Penstemon, Maiden Hair Grasses and Lamb´s Ear.

This garden features Toad Lilies and Snakeroot side by side. I think they look so beautiful together. Another unique bulb is autumn crocus. These bulbs are planted in the summer and bloom in late autumn. They are a bright beautiful purple that really stands out in the garden as everything is going to sleep for winter.

As the weather cools down and the leaves start to fall I wanted to get some tips out there about the benefits of leaving the leaves in the beds as well as some other options like composting them. Enjoy the colours!

Today’s job was replacing a cedar hedge. The old cedars had grown old and out of shape so we replaced them with new ones that could be shaped into a hedge. Hedges need to be maintained in order to keep their shape and provide that tight growth pattern that is perfect for privacy. We applied lots of manure that will act as fertilizer and a mulch helping with water reduction during these last hot September days.

I made this patio two years ago. We planted thyme and surrounding plants from divisions of existing plants in the garden. It’s a perfect place to sit while enjoying the fall weather. I can’t believe how quickly the thyme has filled in the gaps in the flagstones.

As cooler temperatures come I look forward to Anemones, Blooming tall ornamental grasses and sedums. One of the important things to think about when designing and implementing your garden is fall blooms like sedums and anemones. In this garden we made sure to have lots of Fall features to enjoy.

There is nothing that signals Fall like blooming Asters. I love the deep purple colour. The dwarf varieties are great along garden edges and the taller varieties are best towards the back of the garden or along fence lines

I love this garden. Loving expanded by my client and myself into a multi layered visual sensation. The bees were busy with the sedums and she even gets lots of hummingbirds visiting.
