May 1st is right around the corner, which usually marks the first day of work maintaining the greenspace for the Town of Peace River. This year will be different. We have chosen not to bid on the contract due to time restraints along with other commitments. We have been performing this work for 11 years … wow, really that much time has gone by? We have enjoyed the work immensely. The people at the town both in the office and the field have been great. The friendships developed have been extensive and will be long lasting. We’ve also met and worked with many of the people in the user groups over the years and that also has been fantastic.
I would say that the best things has been the opportunity to meet and hire so many awesome young people (a few older ones too) over the years. Many I’m still in contact with, especially through Facebook. It’s been great following them through schooling and onto new careers, or wherever life has taken them.
One might think that Valley Landscapers is closing up shop, after reading this. But that’s not true … we have re-bid and were awarded the Town of Grimshaw’s greenspace maintenance contract, and will also continue with our other government buildings contracts as well. One might say that we have voluntarily downsized. The primary reason for this is due to the new direction I have taken, namely real estate. I recently purchased the Royal LePage Casey Realty office in Peace River … it’s now Royal LePage Valley Realty, and I will soon be a licenced realtor. As one might imagine this new focus will take much of my time. I look forward to seeing you in my new role. I will be very happy to help you with any of your real estate needs. Drop in and say hi when you are passing by!
To the new contractor working in Peace River, I hope that it goes as well for you, as it did for us over the years. The first year is by far the toughest, but it gets much better in the subsequent years.
Good luck to all …
George Leger
