Project Highlight | Ice Damming Restoration
Following the major ice storm in March 2025, our team at PuroClean North Simcoe & Muskoka responded to a challenging ice damming claim at a remote cottage in McDougall, Ontario.
Once the snow and ice had cleared in the spring and work began later in the year, the project quickly expanded beyond a typical ice damming repair. Our team discovered widespread mold growth throughout the ceilings and walls, along with vermiculite asbestos insulation in the attic. Due to the presence of asbestos, a certified hygienist was brought in to oversee air quality monitoring and clearance testing while our team worked alongside specialized abatement contractors to safely remediate the space.
Despite the logistical challenges of a remote Parry Sound cottage location and the complexity of the environmental hazards, the project was successfully completed. In addition to the restoration work covered by the insurance claim, our team also assisted the homeowner with several private renovations while on site. Projects like this highlight the importance of proper mitigation, safe remediation practices, and strong coordination between restoration teams, environmental professionals, and insurers.
The March 2025 ice storm caused millions in property losses across Ontario, and cases like this were a reminder of how critical fast, professional response can be when water damage and environmental hazards combine.
