Mudjacking - 1 1/2” holes drilled into the concrete.
- Sand, fine Clay, Cement Slurry Mix hydraulically pumped underneath the concrete filling the voids and raising the concrete.
- When concrete is raised to original height the job is then cleaned up with a pressure washer.
- After job is cleaned up the 1 1/2” holes are patched with a grout. - When concrete is raised properly, voids are filled, ground settlement is finished, water is directed away from the concrete and cracks & gaps filled and sealed in concrete pads, raising sunken concrete is a long term solution. - Mudjacking is a proven method across Canada & United States since the 1930’s and is used in residential, commercial and industrial secotors
Mudjacking Facts
- Environmentally Friendly - Economical method for fixing sunken concrete - 100% control when raising concrete pads & filling voids - Concrete pads when raised are floated up on a sand, fine clay and cement mud slurry mix which creates less stress on concrete and less cracks when the concrete has free movement. - Excellent for filing voids underneath concrete because of the fine clay content in the slurry mix which allows the mix to slide underneath the concrete. - Mudjacking Materials are non expanding materials - The mudjacking material Caliber Mudjacking Ltd uses is made up of high quality materials that structurally last, seal from water and fills voids replacing the ground base. - Economical method for filling voids - Furthers the life of your concrete pad and also strengthens the concrete by fillings voids and providing a structural ground base underneath the concrete
Polyurethane Concrete Raising Method Process
- 5/8" holes are drilled into the concrete
- Injection ports are placed and tightened in the 5/8” holes - Polyurethane foam spray gun is then connected up to the injection ports - A 2 part liquid is injected underneath the concrete causing a chemical reaction underneath the concrete which reacts together making polyurethane foam. - Polyurethane foam then expands underneath the concrete and when it has filled the voids in the area it has been injected the concrete will start lifting. - Minimal clean up after a job is raised. - Holes are patched with a grout
Polyurethane Foam Concrete Raising Method Facts
- Polyurethane Foam materials are made from recycled foam materials - Materials are all engineered - Polyurethane Foam materials are high density foams designed for a variety of applications: residential concrete, concrete highways and commercial & industrial pads. - Sunlight breaks down polyurethane foam materials - Polyurethane Foam is an expanding material - Less control raising concrete then mudjacking because of expanding materials. - Polyurethane Foam material can set up in 15 mins - When raising concrete with polyurethane foam concrete pads can crack easier because foam materials set so fast which doesn't allow the concrete pad to float when being raised and this means more stress on the concrete when raising it back to original height. - Harder to fill voids then mudjacking because of expanding materials, meaning less control of concrete and very easy to over inject causing pad to crack or raise more. - Materials are expensive are all brought in from the United States. - In areas like Grande Prairie, Northern Alberta, Northern BC & North West Territories there can be a large amount of voids underneath concrete which can drive the price of raising concrete with foam way up because of the material cost. Can be up to 50% more then a mudjacking job when raising concrete with foam is done properly and voids are filled best as possible. - Can provide good insulation value when raising concrete that has in floor heat - cleaner for indoor concrete lifting
Summary of Polyurethane Foam Polyurethane Foam concrete lifting method has its place when raising sunken concrete and is not for every job. Raising concrete with foam can be a very difficult to raise concrete and to fill voids properly because of the expanding materials and the fact that you have no control over how much the material expands, only control of how much you inject underneath the concrete.
This concrete lifting method has been brought more available in the last ten years and is being used by more and more companies because of the cheaper start up costs & ready available materials that you can buy. In some areas in Canada & United States mudjacking materials are not available, so this is a result of more and more new foaming companies.
Companies that raise concrete only with foam know the difficulty of lifting sunken concrete with an expanding material and that's why a lot of companies will space out holes farther, only put 1 row of raising holes in concrete pads and skip filling voids because of the fear of messing up the job because of over injection.
Caliber Mudjacking has been lifting concrete since 1989 an offers both methods for lifting concrete Mudjacking & Polyurethane foam. We will provide you an honest opinion and educate you which concrete lifting method will be best for your job and what you can do after the job is raised to ensure your concrete last as long as possible.
Settlement Caused by swampy ground conditions, unstable soils, areas with lots of fill brought in prior to building, water, time, & disturbing ground (digging).
Concrete Lifted After Ground Settlement Is Done
To prevent further settlement after concrete is lifted & water problems to your concrete by directing water away from your house and concrete, seal cracks & gaps in concrete pad with rubber base concrete caulking.
Water Problems
- Water can heave concrete pads because of swelling clays, and freeze thaw cycles of winter. - Water is also the cause of continue settlement of concrete pads
- Water can cause major foundation problems and be very costly to fix.
Concrete Lifting Summary
Raising concrete is a long term solution as long as the ground settlement is done, water is directed away from concrete and building, cracks and gaps are sealed in concrete pads, and a proper job was done when lifting the concrete so it has proper slope and voids filled.
