It’s that time of year again — the brush is at its peak! 🌿 Late summer brings unique challenges for our field crews, including thick vegetation, limited visibility, and plenty of resistance on every step of the journey. Just ask our hardworking (and very cute) team member pictured here 🐶.

At Forteck, safety is always top of mind. If you’re out in the field, remember to move with care, stay hydrated, dress in layers, and keep an eye on your footing.

Berry season is in full swing here in Northwestern Canada, and one standout species is the Velvetleaf Blueberry (Vaccinium myrtilloides).

This fire-adapted native shrub thrives in disturbed environments such as cutblocks and post-wildfire areas. Thanks to an extensive underground rhizome system, it can quickly regenerate after fire or harvesting, taking advantage of open sunlight and reduced competition from overstory vegetation.

At Forteck, we understand the vital role resilient species like Velvetleaf Blueberries play in forest regeneration and ecosystem recovery. As part of our commitment to sustainable forestry and environmental stewardship, we recognize and support the natural processes that help landscapes heal and thrive.

Perks of the job include incredible views like these. This photo was taken by one of our field crews who are currently working in Alberta’s Rocky Mountains.

Did you know that Canada is home to 9% of the world’s forests? That’s over 347 million hectares of forested land. Even more impressive, over 90% of these forests are publicly owned, allowing for strong oversight and some of the highest standards in sustainable forest management globally.

At Forteck, we’re proud to be part of an industry that balances economic growth, environmental stewardship, and respect for Indigenous land and knowledge.

Wildfire mitigation is a critical component of sustainable forest management. Certain tree species, such as Aspen, are naturally more fire-resistant due to their higher moisture content and lower flammability. Aspen-dominated stands also typically support less undergrowth compared to conifer-dominated forests, which can significantly reduce the spread and intensity of wildfires.

Forest management strategies such as selective removal of conifers and the retention of fire-resistant species like aspen help to reduce wildfire risk.

Partner with Forteck for expert support in wildfire mitigation and responsible forest management practices across Western Canada.
