Resting on 1,717 acres of Colorado ranch land, this home at Marabou Ranch near Steamboat Springs doesn't compete with its surroundings — it belongs to them.

The pale rock, antique timber, and open sightlines carry the landscape straight through the design. CTF supplied the timber frame with an oxford opaque antique finish, T&G in russet brown, and the R-50 roof system.

When looking into timber frame homes, many buyers come across the word "kit"—a term that varies widely from one business to another and rarely sets the right expectations.

It suggests something flat-pack, pre-cut, and ready to assemble. In practice, every manufacturer defines their packages differently. For many buyers, understanding what's actually included and how it affects the quote can be the difference between a smooth build and an unexpected budget gap.

Knowing what sits inside the package, what sits outside it, and how the scope can be layered is what lets you read a quote accurately, and plan your project with confidence.

We've put together a full breakdown on our website. Link in the comments.

Who’s hitting the links this summer? ⛳

This is the Clubhouse in Calgary, Alberta — at over 25,000 sq. ft., it blends casual luxury with an approachable, exciting, and family-friendly atmosphere. Floor-to-ceiling windows and exposed timber trusses bring natural light and warmth into a clean, contemporary interior, with patios overlooking the golf course.

For this project, CTF manufactured the timber components with a storm grey antique finish and custom metal connectors.

One of the most common sources of delay and rework in custom home projects? Not bringing the right people in early enough.

Knowing when to engage each part of your team isn't just a scheduling question—it has real implications for design feasibility, material integration, and budget. We asked Jason Bailey, Principal Architect and Co-Owner at TMS Architects & Interiors, when a timber manufacturer should join the process.

"Clients ask this a lot: when should certain people be brought on? And I always say as early as possible, general contractors included... . The sooner we can bring all of the experts in along that path, the better informed the design can be."
— Jason Bailey, Principal Architect & Co-Owner, TMS Architects and Interiors

Early involvement means design intent is understood before decisions become hard to undo. For timber specifically, it means that structural requirements, material choices, and component integration are considered from the start—not retrofitted on-site.
