This woman is the right candidate to get the job done, responsibly, sustainably and for the right reasons! She loves this town and no one can disagree with that. Vote Isfeld this election. And remember, only vote for the one you truly want, you do t need to check off 4 council names, the more you check off the less likely the one you really want will get in!
I DON’T JUST TALK ABOUT IDEAS. I KNOW HOW TO MAKE THEM HAPPEN.
Throughout my career, I’ve always been an idealist. I look at communities and ask, “What could we be doing differently, and how do we make it happen?”
After approximately 15 years in municipal economic and tourism development, combined with formal economic development education through the University of Waterloo, I’ve also become an executor.
Many people know me for tourism because that’s the work you see.
During my years working in Gimli, I helped create and implement signature events, the Gimli Ice Fishing Village and roadways, lake skating trail, Beach Bash concert series, children’s programming, community events, and unique tourism experiences, including hosting the Mercedes-AMG Driving Academy in Gimli’s Ice Garage. (And I’m always working more behind the scenes whether it be promoting our community through my social media’s, applying for community contests, communicating with Manitoba film and music to encourage local filming etc)
There was always strategy behind the fun.
Putting the Beach Bash stage directly on the beach showcased what made Gimli different. Developing winter experiences helped address the shoulder season. Bringing visitors here meant supporting restaurants, accommodations, retailers and other local businesses.
But there’s another side of my career that doesn’t photograph quite as well for Facebook.
It’s the meetings, policies, research, business conversations, funding applications, partnerships and programs happening behind the scenes.
I’ve always believed tourism and economic development go hand-in-hand.
Today, I serve as the Economic & Tourism Development Officer for the Town of Stonewall, where in roughly a year I’ve helped create two new anchor community events, created and implemented CRISP, the Community Revitalization & Incentive Support Program, and executed a Main Street Revitalization Pilot Project.
CRISP is something I’m particularly proud of because it puts my philosophy of growing from within into action. It helps local businesses invest in themselves while making the community more attractive for future investment.
The program was recognized with an Economic Developers Association of Manitoba Project of the Year Award, presented by a representative of the Association of Manitoba Municipalities.
That recognition means a great deal because it demonstrates that rural communities don’t have to sit back and wait for economic development to happen. With a strong council, good planning and people who understand how to execute, we can create the conditions for investment ourselves.
And programs like CRISP aren’t exclusive to one municipality. The model can be adapted by communities across Manitoba and Canada.
I love my job in Stonewall and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished.
But Gimli is home. My passion has always been my community.
When I talk about what Gimli could do, I’m not asking residents to simply believe that I have good ideas.
I’m asking you to look at what I’ve already done.
I know municipal government. I understand economic and tourism development. I know how to take an idea through the processes, partnerships, funding and planning required to turn it into something real.
I still have the big ideas. Now I have the experience to execute them.
And that’s what I want to bring to the RM of Gimli council table.
