Some zones are extremely sensitive, with flat downstream plains that cannot handle large surges of water. βπΌπ§
To manage this, the hand pull team conducts incremental releases over the course of several days, carefully pulling and monitoring in cycles. This allows them to control the flow and quickly shut it off at the dam if any downstream flooding is observed.
Once a safe threshold is reached, the heavy equipment is brought in. The excavator removes the final two feet of the dam, grading it down to the creek bed. At this stage, the flow-through device (pond leveller) is installed and tacked to the creek bed, after which the excavator buries it under the dam using the previously removed material, resulting in continuous flow.
