It's almost here!!!!! ☀️☀️☀️ With the nicer weather coming, comes people inquiring about roofing jobs. While I have lots of experience in roofing, it is not one of Love Contracting's regular services. But with that being said I would like to offer some free advice to ya'll as I am very tired of watching clients pay roofers to do a job that is s**t. Then I follow along and have to clean up their messes. So I would like to offer some tips and suggestions for what to look out for in your roofing contractor.

In regards to getting a steel roof:

* We live in Grey County, and if the last two winters have proven anything, we are back to getting the harsh winters most of us grew up and remember. So it is VERY IMPORTANT TO DEMAND that your roofer installs snow guards on your new steel roof. IT IS NOT MY JOB AS AN ALUMINUM PERSON TO INSTALL THEM AFTER THE FACT. DEMAND THAT THEY ARE INSTALLED DURING YOUR ROOFING INSTALLATION. I cannot express the importance of snow guards enough as I cannot guarantee your eavestroughs without them!
* If your roofer is going over your existing shingles with steel it is NECESSARY for your roof to be strapped. It is also necessary for the roofer to remove the existing shingles drip edges along the entire perimeter. If they do not, and just go over top you are asking for nothing but trouble. And if I am coming in afterwards to do aluminum it will make my job and my life a living hell and I will curse them out the entire job, and I will be charging more as it makes my job so much more difficult.
* PROPER DRIP EDGES ARE NECESSSARY. Without proper steel drip edges along the perimeter of your roof, water has entry points and will not shed properly. Again IT IS NOT MY RESPONSIBILTY OR JOB TO INSTALL THEM AFTER THE FACT!! If your roofer tells you that you do not need them, they are lazy f***s.
* You need ventilation in your steel roof. Having vented soffit is not enough, a vented ridge will help with air flow in your attic and decrease the risks of ice damning. Ensure you are getting ventilation of some sort.
*Mennonite steel is cheaper, and there is 100% a reason for that. It is thinner and no where near as durable. People are going to come after me for that, but I have witnessed how flimsy and easily damaged Mennonite steel gets with harsh weather. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.
*Mennonites install roofing for way cheaper because they get away without having to do ANY of the business aspects that the regular person has to. Without WSIB, insurance, business licenses etc. Again, you will get what you pay for, they half ass the job. I follow behind them all the time and see it on every job they touch.

IN REGARDS TO SHINGLE ROOFS

* Never and I mean NEVER go over layers of shingles. It may be cheaper now, but it will not be in the long run. You are increasing your chances of rot, you are leaving unnecessary weight on your roof, and it is just bad practice.
* Again, I cannot express the importance of proper drip edges. It is also necessary for shingles to OVERHANG the drip edge. If the shingles are installed flush, water will not shed properly and it will NOT go into your eavestroughs. And that is not a me issue. It is a roofer, lazy f**k issue.
* If you have a home that experiences a lot of ice damning ensure that another layer of ice and water is added. Yes, only 1 row is required. But again, with the ice and snow we get in Grey County it doesn't hurt to have an extra layer for added protection.

The more you know, the better chances you have of spending your money on a roof that will last and work properly. If your roofer shows up missing all of their teeth in a rotted truck, guaranteed you will have no warranty, and they will be doing drugs while on your job. Tailgate warranties are no good, and it is not my responsibility to clean up after them. If the price seems too good to be true, there is a reason. I hope this information helps as I am extremely exhausted with following behind such terrible workmanship all the time. I am available for questions during reasonable working hours.

Happy almost spring. With this warmer weather comes the panic of planning for the 2026 working season. Due to my injury in the beginning of the year it is very important that I take a few steps back and prioritize my health and recovery. Recovery is not going well for me as I keep injuring myself more with the ice and snow when I am trying to maneuver through this slippery life. Due to this I have made a decision that Love Contracting will absolutely not be taking on any new jobs or clients for at least the first 6 months of the season. I already have a swamped workload with projects I had lined up, and projects that I didn't get to last year. This does not include people that I have already quoted, spoken to, agreed to do work for, have lined up, or my regular contractors.

Last year I was overwhelmed with repair work. While I was grateful to have work in times of uncertainty, I also became extremely frustrated with fixing the same couple of local companies repeated mistakes. I urge you, if you had someone do your work, please fight tooth and nail for them to remedy their own issues. It is not up to me to be these companies clean up crew, and it is not fair to me. You only learn from your own mistakes when you are held accountable and see the error in your ways. I am done fixing these guys work, as it is time for their employees to learn how to do the work properly the first time. I of course stand behind my own work, and will always be available for my clients when there are issues. But I am done repairing big companies with crews work as it should be up to them so they can stop doing shoddy, unreliable work. Especially when these businesses have been around the area for years. So if they can last with doing s**tty work, they should have to clean up their own s**t. Just because someone has been doing something for years, does not mean they have been doing it well, or right. Accountability is lost these days, we need to bring it back.

I will be a lot more particular on the jobs I take on in the future. With people not wanting to pay it is already a struggle to run a business. If you are not comfortable in giving deposits for work to be completed, that shows your contractor that you have no trust in them so why should we have trust in you, the client, to pay in the end. I understand that there are a lot of shady contractors out there, but trust me when I say that I have dealt with a lot of shady and s**tty clients as well. The only difference is we aren't able to leave s**tty reviews on your personal page. In being more particular on jobs, I will also only be taking jobs that I feel I can take on physically this year. I know that I have become a bit notorious for doing the high difficult jobs, but with my injured leg I am afraid that I will be unable to that this year. I do not know how long it is going to be for my leg to recover back to normal. So these measures I am putting in place are to allow myself the proper time and space I need. I have also been extremely stressed in running this business for the last 9 years. This stress is taking a massive toll on my mental health, and I need to prioritize that as well.

Thank you for your understanding and support in this time. The dogs and I all hope you get some sun on your skin after this horribly long and frigid winter.

Love Contracting is currently shut down for business for at least the next 8 weeks as I am down with a broken leg. I am going to be taking my recovery very seriously so that I can be back on my feet and up to optimal strength for the spring. Thank you to my family, and friends for the support during this time. And most importantly to my man for being the absolute best and staying by side through this all.

I have to say a massive heartfelt thank you to the local community for your support and votes. It's an honor to service my home area, and I am so proud of this humble business of mine that I have built from nothing over the last 9 years for going up against some heavy hitters. Thank you, thank you, thank you. 💜

Welcome to winter of 2026. I hope ya'll are doing well and had a great holiday season with your loved ones.
This is a post regarding snow and ice. I am receiving calls and inquiries about ice build up. Unfortunately this is something I usually cannot do anything about. If you drive around and look at pretty much every home in Grey County, whether they are over 100 years old, or only a few years old, pretty much everyone has ice build up. Yes, there can be insulation and ventilation issues, eavestrough issues etc. But for the most part it is due to the weather. With the weather fluctuating from freezing and thawing, this is just mother nature being a nasty bitch. I DO NOT do snow and ice removal from roofs. So please do not contact me looking for ice removal. I appreciate people wanting to support my business and keep me going during the winter months. But I am not interested in ice and snow removal. I will not answer messages about these inquiries. For the most part, you should leave it alone as removal causes damage to your eavestroughs and shingles. Especially if you are using axes. And if you take these measures, it will interfere with your warranty on your eavestroughs and shingles.
Thank you for your continued support.

If this winter can prove anything, I hope it proves to show how important it is to hire someone who cares. Love Contracting specializes in century home work, because I take the time to fully restore your subfascias, and rafter tails. Without the proper framing behind your aluminum work, your eavestrough will not withstand winter. Just think, if you lived outside through all of Canada's seasons for over a 100 years, you wouldn't be as strong and reliable either. If you are putting new eavestroughs on your home it is SOOO IMPORTANT to make sure that the substructure behind is good enough first. I follow behind so many local companies that DON'T do the proper prep work to ensure that your eavestroughs are going to last. It may cost a bit more at the jump, but you won't have to call me back to redo something that you have already paid for once. Stop wasting your hard-earned money and do the job once, properly.

In the spring time, when ya'll see how damaged your troughs are from hiring these fly by nighters with axes to clear them, don't forget to call Love Contracting for your free quote! I install seamless 5" with Alu- Rex gutter guard that comes with a lifetime warranty. Alu-rex can withstand these winters with being able to hold 240 lbs per foot of pressure. 705 994 4990!

I feel the need to post this because I am seeing so many people getting bent out of shape about snow and ice on their roof. I know a lot of you are new to Grey County. As a local, one who's family has lived in this area for generations, this is how our winters used to be. This is NORMAL!!!! You absolutely do not need to freak out. I am seeing too many people getting scammed into paying for snow and ice removal, and people recommending heat cables. Most of us in this profession DO NOT RECOMMEND HEAT CABLES. They are a waste of time and money and can cause damage to your roof. Having ice and snow does not necessarily mean you have insulation issues or ventilation issues. It could if you have an older home, but for the newer homes , no. We have building codes in place for a reason. And the building codes allow for snow load on your roof. If you have concerns, PLEASE reach out to a professional, and not these fly by nighters who are ready to come take your hard earned cash to take an ax to your roof, cause damage and install heat cables.

That's a wrap on this project over by Varney. This exterior was a complete labour of Love, with me doing the siding and aluminum work, and my aunt doing all of the stone work. Robin worked tirelessly on this job doing the stone 95% on her own. Stone is Shouldice Stone Newport and Q stone. Siding and aluminum is from Buchner Manufacturing Inc.. The porch was a lot of work, especially with the octagon being 5" out of square from the house, but it turned out alright 👌 Eavestrough, of course, has alu-rex gutter guards to help protect against the ice flying off the steel roof. We also installed troughs on the existing shop, I have to say a huge thank you to Robin for helping me with that because I ate s**t and hurt my back working on it. Glad to see this one buttoned up 🍻

Last year was a very difficult year for me. I worked my ass off, but it didn't seem like projects were going well. I was struggling with my mental health, and it felt like I was spinning my tires. But seeing the support from my local community like this has just left me absolutely flabbergasted. Thank you so much for your continued support. That's what keeps me going, and able to do what I love.
