🐂 Breeding Season Update 🐂 On July 20th, we turned our bulls out with the cows and started the next chapter in our herd’s yearly cycle.
The bulls will be with the cows for 60 days before coming back home on September 20th. This gives us a controlled breeding season and helps us plan for cows starting to calve around the end of April.
By targeting a later calving season, our goal is to avoid the challenges that can come with late winter storms and have cows calving out on pasture when conditions are more favourable.
For us, a successful calving season is about keeping things simple—healthy cows, good forage, and allowing them to do what they do best with as little intervention as possible.
Every management decision we make is about building a system that works with nature, not against it. 🌱🐄
👇 What time of year do you prefer to calve, and what factors influenced your decision?

🐄 Producer Check-In! 🐄
You’re driving through the pasture and notice a group of cows lying down, all chewing their cud.
What’s the first thing that comes to mind?

A) They’re content and making good use of the forage they’ve grazed.
B)They’re getting ready to head back out and graze again.
C) They’re likely too full and should be pushed to get up and move.
D) They’re trying to cool themselves down.

When cattle are chewing their cud, it’s a good indication they’ve spent time grazing and are now digesting what they’ve eaten.
Chewing cud isn’t just “something cows do.” Every chew helps break down forage into smaller pieces while producing saliva, which helps buffer the rumen and creates the right environment for the billions of microbes that digest fiber.
A healthy rumen is the engine behind the cow. When it’s functioning well, cattle are better able to extract nutrients from forage, supporting their health, performance, and productivity.
It’s one of the simple things many producers look for when checking a herd. A pasture full of content cows chewing their cud is often a sign that the rumen is doing exactly what it was designed to do.

👇 When you’re checking cattle, what’s one thing you always look for first?

Did you know? 🐔🐣
Not every laying hen goes broody, but when one does, she’ll naturally stop laying eggs and spend about 21 days keeping her eggs warm until they hatch.
That’s exactly what happened here!
Instead of using an incubator, this determined mama did all the work herself—and now she has a healthy little chick to follow her everywhere.
There’s nothing quite like watching nature do what it was designed to do. 💛
Have you ever had a hen hatch her own chicks? We’d love to hear about it below!

🌱 Full-Season Cover Crop Going In! 🌱
Last week we got our full-season cover crop seeded! Every pass across the field is an opportunity to invest in healthier soil for the future.
This year we also added Fulvic from Enargia. fulvic isn’t a herbicide—it’s a natural carbon compound that helps improve nutrient movement and supports the biological activity in the soil. Applying it with our pre-burn is one way we’re working to give our soil biology a boost before the crop is even seeded.
Some of the potential benefits include:
✔️ Supports beneficial soil microbes
✔️ Helps improve nutrient availability
✔️ Encourages stronger early root development
✔️ Promotes healthier, more resilient soils over time
, we’re using the SynBio Pack is a biological seed treatment containing beneficial microorganisms that are applied directly to the seed. Once the seed is planted, these microbes colonize the root zone and begin working alongside the plant.
Synbiopack:
🌱 Supports rapid root establishment
🦠 Increases beneficial microbial activity around the roots
🔄 Helps cycle nutrients into forms plants can access
💧 Improves nutrient and water use efficiency
🌾 Encourages stronger, healthier plant growth
🌍 Contributes to building long-term soil health
Rather than replacing good fertility or management practices, SynBio Pack works with your existing program by helping create a healthier, more biologically active soil environment.
Healthy soil doesn’t happen overnight—it’s built one decision at a time. We’re excited to see how this crop performs and will be sure to keep you updated throughout the season!

🐄 Which cow-calf pair is your favorite? 👀🌾
It’s hard not to stop and admire moments like these.
There’s something special about watching healthy cows and calves thriving out on pasture. Every pair has their own story, and seeing calves grow alongside content, productive mothers is one of the most rewarding parts of ranching.
These moments remind us why we do what we do. Healthy livestock starts with good nutrition, quality forage, healthy soils, and taking the time to care for the little things every day.
🌾 Now it’s your turn!
Pick your favorite cow-calf pair!
1️⃣, 2️⃣, 3️⃣, 4️⃣, 5️⃣, or 6️⃣? Let us know in the comments why you picked them!
