Yearly reminder!!
Now that warmer weather has finally arrived we would like to remind everyone the importance of laying your sod in a timely fashion.
We cut most of our sod for deliveries the same day it is being shipped. For contractors who want early morning deliveries the sod is cut and loaded the evening prior.
With temperatures in the mid 20’s sod starts to decompose on the pallet around the 24 hour mark after it was cut. The pallet of sod heats up through the core of the pallet which leaves a distinctive circular burn pattern, is hot to touch and could have mold on it. If this happens, the circular mark in the piece of sod will die and not grow back. The only time we see this pattern is when sod is left on the pallet too long.
We tell our customers all sod has to be laid within the 24 hour time frame, but our contractors have less time if they get first load of the day as it would have sat on a truck for 12 hours already before being delivered.
Sod that is being picked up on Saturdays at our Elmsdale location is also cut the day before and should be laid right away.
All sod should be watered immediately after install long enough so the topsoil underneath is wet, and the same amount morning and evening with a sprinkler (not a hose!) until you can no longer pick the piece of sod off the ground and it is rooted.
If you run into any issues with your sod orders please contact us right away at [email protected].
