The East Hants Penguins are pleased to announce the signing of hometown forward Theo Stapleton for the 2026-27 season! Stapleton was acquired from the Blazers last year, and is coming off an impressive season with Hants East Regional High, recording 34 points (17G, 17A) in just 15 games. After previously playing with the March & Mill Co. Hunters, Theo brings tremendous skating ability, a powerful shot, and excellent hockey sense to our lineup. We’re excited to welcome another hometown player to and look forward to watching him continue his career in a Penguins uniform. Welcome aboard Theo! 🐧🚨🏒

EAST HANTS, N.S. — The East Hants Penguins are pleased to announce the promotion of JP Harvey to Assistant Coach for the upcoming season. Harvey moves into the role after serving as the club’s Skills Coach for the past three seasons, where he played an integral part in the development of the Penguins players.

A native of Cole Harbour, Harvey enjoyed a distinguished playing career that began in the Cole Harbour Minor Hockey system before spending two seasons with the Cole Harbour McCain Major Midget program. He went on to play four seasons in the Maritime Hockey League, capturing a Kent Cup championship and helping his team earn a National Junior A Silver Medal at the RBC Cup in Summerside. Harvey later continued his career at Dalhousie University, where he spent three seasons competing in U SPORTS.

Away from the rink, Harvey has proudly served as an RCMP officer in East Hants for the past four years, further strengthening his connection to the community he now coaches in.

Harvey joined the Penguins coaching staff in 2023 as Skills Coach and has earned the respect of players and fellow coaches alike through his leadership, knowledge of the game, and commitment to player development. His promotion to Assistant Coach reflects the impact he has made within the organization over the past three seasons.

“JP has been a really strong addition for us ever since joining our staff as a skills coach in 2023,” said President and General Manager Connor Hirtle. “JP has excelled in his position as our skills coach over the past three seasons, and our players have the utmost respect for him. They truly buy in to what he’s telling them which made it an even easier decision for us to promote him to an Assistant Coach this season. The thing that I’ve always admired about JP is his leadership qualities. I can remember from back in our playing days, he took me under his wing and he was just an easy guy to look up to, you wanted to follow his work ethic and passion for the game. Our players feel the same way about him on our staff and I’m extremely excited to have him in a more prominent role with us now.”

Harvey said he is eager to continue building on the progress the organization has made in recent seasons.

“I’m extremely excited to be back with East Hants for another season. I’m looking forward to building on what we’ve accomplished the last few years. This organization has been a big part of my life the last 3 years, and being able to give back to the community I work in has been a privilege. I’m lucky to work alongside some amazing players, staff and volunteers! Thank you to the Pens for having me back!”

Harvey and his fiancée, Emma, reside in Bedford and remain actively involved in the East Hants community through both his policing career and his commitment to the Penguins organization.

The East Hants Penguins are excited to welcome JP and Emma into his expanded role and look forward to the leadership, experience and passion he will continue to bring behind the bench as the club prepares for the 2026-27 season.
