The costs of back-to-school shopping can add up quickly.

That’s why Generations Community Church in Wellesley runs a backpack program where local children can choose a backpack, lunch pail and school supplies, all free of charge. The program serves between 40 and 60 kids a year.

Beyond Housing donates space at our David Street property for this program, as well as for the Wellesley Community Food Cupboard and the Wellesley Clothing Cupboard. These free programs are all run by volunteers and funded through donations. We’re proud to support Wellesley families in this way and help “neighbours caring for neighbours.”

See what you did? 😊

For 25 years, donors, volunteers and community partners have helped Beyond Housing create affordable homes across Waterloo Region.

On Saturday, October 3, join us for our 25th Homecoming Bus Tour and see that impact firsthand. We’ll visit Beyond Housing communities, share stories from along the way and celebrate what we’ve built together.

Come along for the ride and see where your support has made a difference — one home, one family and one community at a time. (The registration link is in the comments.)

887 Frederick is looking more like home every day! 🏠

Throughout August, crews from Zehr Group have been busy, inside and out. They’re installing plumbing and insulation in some units, while other units are ready for drywall.

Every step in the construction process is due to the generosity of donors and partners who believe families deserve a safe affordable place to live. Thanks for helping to turn these townhomes into places where families can build their new beginnings!

A special shoutout goes to Al Harris for taking these photos so we could share them with you.

Today we're celebrating Lori's five-year anniversary with Beyond Housing!

From recording donations and preparing reports for our government partners to organizing Out-Spok’n and our AGM, Lori's work touches nearly every part of the organization. She also asks thoughtful questions that help ensure our events and projects are well planned and successful.

As one colleague put it: “Lori brings an enthusiasm to her role that is infectious. She's always willing to pitch in and take on whatever tasks are necessary, tending to many minor details that help make everything work more smoothly.”

Thank you, Lori, for five years of outstanding service, dedication, teamwork and “other duties as assigned…” 😊 Congratulations on this milestone!

On Thursday night, we were honoured to receive a BIG cheque from 100 Men Who Give a Damn Waterloo Region. This amazing gift will help create a playground at our new townhomes on Frederick Street in Kitchener. Some of our future tenants will be women and children who have experienced domestic violence, and the playground will be a place where kids can play, laugh and dream without fear.

A lovely side note: the land for this project was generously donated by the Hallman family. Rachel MacDonald, a Hallman granddaughter, attended the event and took this photo. We are incredibly grateful to Rachel and the Hallman family, the 100 Men and everyone who is making new beginnings possible for our tenants.
