Friday evening was windy but warm — perfect weather for a cookout with neighbours at The Foundry in Elmira.

Tenants enjoyed foil dinners prepared by Community Support Worker Sue and cooked on the BBQ and fire pit. We followed that up with ice cream sundaes and a friendly game of co****le.

Sometimes the best things in life are simple things, like good food, great company and a few laughs with neighbours on a warm summer evening.

🚴 Out-Spok'n is tomorrow!

That’s when Martin Buhr will take part in his final Out-Spok'n Bike-a-Thon, helping raise funds for Beyond Housing's planned 30-unit accessible apartment building in Elmira.

In a new Woolwich Observer story, he reflects on why he continues to ride for affordable housing at age 87. For Martin, housing is more than a roof over someone's head. It's the foundation for health, education, employment and family stability.

There's still time to join us at Out-Spok’n!

Today is the International Day of Play, a reminder that every child deserves a safe place to learn, grow and simply be a kid.

At Beyond Housing, we believe affordable housing should be more than four walls and a roof. That’s why our townhomes at 887 Frederick Street will include a playground where children can play, make friends and build lasting memories.

We’re grateful to 100 Men Who Give a Damn Waterloo Regionfor their significant contribution toward this playground. Their generosity is helping create a space where families can connect and children can thrive.

Because home is more than a place to live. It’s a place to play too.

It was a privilege to attend Theatre of the Beat’s play, Invisible Threads, at Breslau Mennonite Church last night. The play is about modern-day slavery in all its forms (sweat shops in the textile industry, abuse of migrant workers, human s*x trafficking, etc.) and what we as individuals can do to fight it.

We were honoured that half of the evening’s ticket sales will be donated to Beyond Housing to support affordable housing in our community. Thank you, Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church and Breslau Mennonite Church, for your hospitality and generosity!

Just one week until Out-Spok'n! 🚴

On June 13, riders from across Waterloo Region will come together to help create more affordable housing. This year, funds raised will support our planned 30-unit apartment building in Elmira. And thanks to incredible community support, we're moving toward our $150,000 fundraising goal.

You can help us cross the finish line. There's still time to register, donate, or sponsor a rider.

For one afternoon, Sprucelawn Apartments for Seniors felt a little like Downton Abbey.

Guests arrived in their finest clothes and fascinators for a High Tea featuring fine china, dainty sandwiches, scones and desserts. The elegant event was also a surprise farewell celebration for Connie, one of the founders of Sprucelawn’s social committee.

Since 2024, Connie has helped bring exercise classes, games, workshops, potlucks, movie nights, and community partnerships to Sprucelawn, creating opportunities for neighbours to connect and support one another.

Read how tenants came together to celebrate a friend, neighbour and community builder.

Thank you to the social committee and to Beyond Housing donors for making Sprucelawn a place where neighbours can connect, support one another, and thrive.
