Autumn is one of the most useful seasons for your garden. From October through November, simple tasks now shape spring growth, improve soil health, and reduce spring cleanup.
Start by shredding fallen leaves with a mower or rake and use the pieces as mulch around shrubs, perennials, and vegetable beds. Keep mulch a few centimetres from stems and trunks, and avoid thick, whole-leaf layers that can mat and block air. On lawns, mow leaves high so small pieces drop between grass blades β collect excess and move it to beds or a compost/leaf-mould pile.
It is also time to plant spring bulbs. Choose a sunny, well-drained spot, plant bulbs two to three times their depth with the pointy end up, water after planting, and mark planting spots. Decide whether you want naturalizing tulips for recurring display or showier hybrids that may be treated like annuals.
A clear plan and a bit of steady effort now will give your garden a stronger start next spring. Read the full guide for practical tips and timing: https://wix.to/zbsPF28
