🚪 Why Is Garage Door Lubrication So Important?
Your garage door has many moving parts working under heavy tension every day. Proper lubrication helps reduce noise, prevent wear, protect against rust, and extend the life of springs, rollers, hinges, and the opener system.
✅ How often should you lubricate your garage door?
• Recommended: every 6 months
• In Alberta winters: every 3–4 months is even better
⚠️ What should be lubricated?
✔ Hinges
✔ Springs
✔ Metal rollers
✔ Arm joints and moving metal connections
❌ What should NOT be lubricated?
✘ Garage door tracks
✘ Safety sensors
✘ Nylon roller wheels themselves
💡 Important note about nylon rollers:
Many people think nylon rollers should be sprayed directly with lubricant, but that is usually not recommended. The nylon wheel itself does not need lubrication and lubricant can attract dirt and dust.
✅ However, if the nylon roller has an exposed metal bearing, you can lightly lubricate ONLY the metal bearing area.
🛠 What lubricant should you use?
Use a silicone-based lubricant designed specifically for garage doors. Avoid using regular WD-40 as a lubricant — it is mainly a cleaner and moisture remover.
A little maintenance today can prevent expensive repairs tomorrow. 👍
