🌱 What happens to our fields after we harvest sod?

This photo is a great example of how we manage our fields with soil conservation and long-term productivity in mind.

🌱 LEFT — Regrowth
Harvested a couple of months ago, this area is already growing back. When we harvest sod, we leave the root system and plant material in the soil, allowing the grass to regrow and helping protect the soil from erosion.

We don’t sell this regrowth as sod. After harvest, we reseed the field and establish a new crop.

🌱 MIDDLE — Recently harvested
This section was harvested just a few days ago.

🌱 RIGHT — Established crop
This field was seeded approximately 4–5 years ago and has had time to develop into a mature, high-quality sod crop. Depending on growing conditions, our sod is typically grown for 3–5 years before harvest.

🌱 Why does this matter?

Soil is one of our most important assets. We’re not just farming this land for today—we want it to remain productive for the next generation.

In wet years like this one, allowing regrowth to establish until we’re able to reseed helps protect the soil and reduce erosion.

We’re proud that soil conservation at the forefront of how we farm.

At the end of the day, we’re farmers and stewards of the land. Healthy soil means healthy sod.

What a weekend!

We’re incredibly grateful to have been named a recipient of Sturgeon County’s 2026 Excellence in Agriculture Award. This recognition means a great deal to our family and our team, especially because we take so much pride in the work we do, our operation, and our commitment to responsible land and soil stewardship.

Then, to top off the weekend, we had the opportunity to share our story about how the recent heavy rains and flooding have impacted our farm and our fields. Farming comes with its share of challenges, and this year has certainly reminded us just how much of our business depends on things we can’t control.

From celebrating an award recognizing the work we do, to talking about the challenges we’re facing in the fields—it was a weekend that captured both the pride and reality of agriculture.

We’re thankful for the recognition, grateful for everyone who continues to support local agriculture, and proud to keep doing what we do.

Thank you, Sturgeon County, for this incredible honour!

Freshly cut. Never sitting on a pallet baking in the sun. That’s the Superior difference. 🌱

Many sod suppliers cut large quantities in advance and store them until they’re sold. We don’t.

At Superior Sod, every order is cut specifically for you.

🚛 Delivery orders are cut the morning of your scheduled delivery.

📍 Pickup orders are cut less than one hour before you arrive.

That means:
✔️ Maximum freshness
✔️ Healthier, stronger root establishment
✔️ Less stress on the sod
✔️ A greener, longer-lasting lawn

It’s a little more work for us, but it means you receive the freshest sod possible—and that’s a difference you’ll see in your lawn.

Fresh isn’t a marketing slogan. It’s our standard.
