Katch Kan Katch Kan™ optimizing rig performance while protecting the environment https://campsite.to/katchkan

Katch Kan works with industry oil and gas companies and drilling contractors to ensure access to tangible, efficient, safe and proactive solutions to prevent the loss of drilling fluids and the contamination of drilling sites. The patented Zero Spill System (ZSS)™ TM not only captures drilling fluids but assists in the prevention of the need to go fishing for dropped objects down the well bore. In

itial testing of the revolutionary Rig Safety System (RSS)™ and Zero Spill System included a positive return on investment. It revealed that not only were Operating Companies reducing long term contamination liabilities, but were able to recycle expensive drilling fluids, thus leading to lower operating costs with minimal impact at the well site. The upstream oil and gas drilling sector finally has a proactive green initiative that works. Quinn Holtby, President & CEO, Katch Kan Ltd., leads a Core Certified, ISO 9001 and 14001 Certified Company that is proud to produce a wide variety of products meeting and exceeding the environmental and safety challenges facing the global oil and gas industry. The Canadian Oil and gas sector was the first to utilize Katch Kan products, which are now exported to operators in over 60 countries.

The difference is night and day.

Without Kelly Kan™: Mess and a massive cleanup job.
With Kelly Kan™: Controlled fluid redirection, a cleaner floor and a safer crew.

Instead of letting mud and oil flood the rig floor, the Kelly Kan™ seamlessly redirects the discharge back to where it belongs.

Stop wrestling with the mess. Keep your roughnecks safe and your operations moving.

Our mission is driven by the reality of the field. The daily work environment of rough necks serves as a stark reminder of why we do what we do.

From preventing environmental impact to ensuring every worker returns home safely, we remain committed to engineering solutions that mitigate risk on the rig floor. The stakes are too high for anything less than total protection.

Our Core Commitment:
Personnel Safety: Protecting the hands that power the industry.
Environmental Stewardship: Keeping oil where it belongs, in the pipe, not the ecosystem.
Operational Excellence: Reducing downtime and rig floor hazards through innovation.

Safety isn’t just a protocol, it’s our purpose.

Seeing the Kelly Kan in action reveals the grit required to keep a rig moving. Performance starts with proper installation, specifically ensuring the correct height and placement to create a seamless seal.

When you back that technical setup with the Katch Mat and the Splash Guard, the system becomes a powerhouse defense against spills. This combined configuration captures every drop, keeping connections clean and the work area stable.

Precision results depend on this total setup. When your equipment is dialed perfectly, you protect your crew, your floor, and the environment.

For years, Katch Kan has engineered equipment to survive in the world’s toughest environments. In this video, Our CEO and President, Quinn Holtby, highlights a recent service arrival, a unit that has been active for over 25 years despite improper care and maintenance, endured over two decades of rigorous field use.

As Quinn points out, while this unit has finally reached the end of its journey, its durability is a testament to our commitment to quality.

FIELD TESTED. RIG READY.

Out in the field, where safety isn’t a slogan - it’s survival.

The Kan Karry in action:

- Supporting heavy components up to 140 lb

- Reducing manual handling risks

- Giving crews better control, stability, and confidence

This isn’t theory.

This is real-world performance - under real rig conditions.

Safer handling starts here.

Roughnecks are among the hardest-working people on a drilling rig.
They handle drill pipe, operate heavy equipment, and work in one of the toughest environments in the world.

But one mistake can cost a life.

Without proper PPE, a roughneck faces daily hazards such as:
• Falling objects from the derrick
• Rotating machinery and moving drill string
• High-pressure fluids and chemicals
• Slippery rig floors and heavy tools
• Extreme noise and harsh weather

Helmets, gloves, safety glasses, coveralls, steel-toe boots, and hearing protection are not optional - they are essential.

Safety isn’t just a rule. It’s a culture.

Every worker deserves to return home safely after every shift.

Stay alert.
Wear your PPE.
Protect your crew.

When Weight on Bit Becomes a Risk

This incident shows what happens when Weight on Bit (WOB) suddenly exceeds safe limits.

The excessive load transferred directly to the bit and BHA, causing a sharp spike in torque and drag. Strong vibrations traveled up the drill string, putting the entire system under heavy stress. At surface, the drawworks and rotating equipment carried abnormal tension, creating an unstable drilling condition within seconds.

A rapid increase in WOB also impacts hole cleaning. More cuttings are generated instantly, and without sufficient circulation, they can accumulate around the BHA - increasing pressure and the risk of pack-off or stuck pipe.

This is a reminder: WOB is not just a number on a screen. It is real force acting from the bit to the rig floor.

Apply parameters gradually. Monitor closely. Stay coordinated.
Control and teamwork keep drilling safe.

Paraffinic Formation Oil on Shakers (OBM)

Sticky, tar-like oil on shakers?
Don’t judge by looks alone.

In OBM, wax-rich formations can bring oil to surface without a well control event.
Downhole heat keeps paraffin dissolved; at surface it cools, wax precipitates, and screens smear.

This can indicate hydrocarbon zones, not system failure.

Well control is defined by behavior and data - not appearance.

“Throwing the slips” is NOT a skill, it’s a risk.

On drilling rigs, some roughnecks treat snapping the rotary slips as a test of speed or strength.
In reality, it’s how hands get crushed, pipe gets damaged, and control gets lost.

Slips are a safety barrier, not a competition
Set them slowly, evenly, and correctly
Speed never beats safety

One bad move can change everything.
Work smart. Go home safe.
