When repeated repairs don’t solve unauthorized access, the issue usually isn’t the hardware — it’s the system.

We recently completed a security upgrade for a residential condominium in Edmonton where multiple contractors had attempted repairs without success. The solution was to address the entire door opening as one integrated system.

This project included:

A Von Duprin 9827 surface vertical rod exit device with two points of latching

A Dormakaba ED100 automatic door operator with power latch assist for positive latching

Access control integration using QEL to ensure only authorized entry

Once integrated, the door now performs as intended — improving security while maintaining accessibility.

Barrier-Free Starts at the Washroom Door

A truly accessible washroom isn’t just about grab bars and clear floor space — it starts with the door.

For this installation, we used dormakaba Americas ED100 operators paired with Camden Door Controls washroom locking and control kit to create a seamless experience that meets both the 2023 Alberta Building Code and AAADM standards.

Don’t judge a book by its cover!

This Automatic Door may look the same, but behind the scenes, everything has been upgraded.

This loading dock hallway door system had seen better days — it was obsolete, unreliable, and no longer up to spec. We replaced the failed operators with dormakaba Americas ED250s and BEA Sensors Americas Flatscan 3D sensors, fully re-integrated with the building’s access control system.

By reusing the existing header — originally from a different manufacturer — we avoided the need to rerun conduit or refinish large surfaces, keeping both disruption and costs to a minimum.

Now fully AAADM compliant, this entrance is ready to serve reliably for years to come.

Ever retrofit a sliding door instead of replacing it? Here’s what we did.

📌 The Challenge
The building’s original sliding door systems' obsolete parts were due for replacement, and the sensors no longer met current safety standards. The "shell" was still in great shape. A complete replacement of the entire system — header, panels, and all — would have been a costly upgrade.

✅ Our Solution
We installed a Record-USA Recordfit 5100 Retrofit Kit, specifically designed to upgrade older Stanley systems by replacing only the critical internal components, rollers and guides. The existing header, sliding, and stationary panels were all retained, which significantly reduced the cost and avoided unnecessary waste.

We completed the retrofit with BEA IXIO sensors, bringing the system up to current AAADM safety standards and ensuring reliable operation for years to come.

✔️ Met current ANSI/AAADM compliance
✔️ Extended the life expectancy of the system by 7–12 years

🔧 Successful Door Repair! 🔧

We were recently called in to diagnose a door that wasn’t securing or activating properly. We discovered an uncommon issue with the Camden CX-12 sequencer and replaced it, quickly restoring the door’s functionality. ✅

Additionally, we found that the BEA SuperScan safety sensors weren’t properly integrated with the NABCO GT8500 operator, so we corrected that. We also reconnected the mode switch, ensuring everything was back in working order.
