Over the past 10 years, one of our standout projects was the polished concrete application completed in 2016 at Northern Alberta Institute of Technology within the CAT Building. We had the opportunity to work alongside Clark Builders on this project, delivering a deep grind polished concrete finish that showcased both durability and craftsmanship.

This project became an important milestone for our team, as it went on to receive an international polished concrete project award an achievement we are incredibly proud of.

Polished concrete continues to be one of the most versatile and high-performing flooring applications in commercial and institutional spaces. It offers exceptional durability, low maintenance requirements, long-term cost savings, and a clean modern appearance. Beyond aesthetics, polished concrete also improves light reflectivity within a space and provides a sustainable flooring solution by utilizing the existing concrete slab rather than covering it with additional materials.

Desco On The Road In The '70s

Back when trucks were indestructible lol… A blast from the past our 1970s Chevrolet Desco pickup truck, once driven by former foreman Bill Mazur, captured on its way to a job site in Jasper National Park. Bill pulled over to snap this picturesque shot, showcasing not just the beauty of Alberta’s landscapes, but also the hard work and dedication that have driven Desco for decades.

Back in the day, these trucks were the workhorses of our crew transporting tools, equipment, material, and hardworking teams to job sites across the province.
From then to now, our commitment to quality and craftsmanship remains just as strong. Check out more of our company history here at descoalberta.com.

A great night out at the Edmonton Valley Zoo!

The Desco team had a fantastic time attending the Synergy Spring Social yesterday evening. Daryl and Adam Samycia, along with Terri and Michael Spotowski, stepped away from the office to enjoy a unique evening of networking among the exhibits.

It was a wonderful event filled with delicious bites and even better company. We truly enjoyed the opportunity to catch up with familiar faces in the industry and build new connections within the Edmonton business community.

Huge thanks to Synergy for hosting such a memorable evening it’s always great to see the talent and passion that drives our local industry forward!

The Secret To Flooring That Lasts? It’s All In The Prep.

At Desco, we know that a high-performance floor is only as good as the surface beneath it. That’s why we utilize advanced Shot Blasting technology to guarantee superior adhesion and long-term durability for every coating system we install.

What is Shot Blasting? It’s a mechanical method that uses steel shot to strip away old coatings, contaminants, and weak surface layers. This creates the perfect textured profile for a flawless, permanent bond.

Why It’s Essential: Skipping surface prep is a recipe for system failure. We do it right the first time to help you avoid peeling, bubbling, and expensive future repairs.

Industries We Provide Service To:

- Commercial Warehouses
- Industrial Plants
- Manufacturing Facilities
- Institutional Buildings
- Parkades & Parking Structures
- Food & Beverage Processing
- Health Care Facilities

Be it epoxy, urethane or cementitious overlays, our surface preparation services provides the ability for long-lasting surfaces. Looking to start your project? Throwback: Leading From The Ground Up

Great leadership is built on a solid foundation. Before stepping into ownership, Chris Samycia, Michael Spotowski, and Daryl Samycia were out in the field as laborers, learning the grit of the trade firsthand.

These "ground-up" starts were instrumental in shaping the leaders they are today. By mastering the technical applications and daily practices of concrete restoration and protection long before taking on an ownership role, they gained a deep, firsthand understanding of every aspect of the business.

This hands-on experience was further sharpened under the invaluable mentorship of our founders, Nestor and Orest. By learning directly from the masters of the craft, Daryl, Chris, and Michael were able to bridge the gap between field-level ex*****on and high-level vision. Today, they lead with authentic experience and a true mastery of the trade, ensuring every project upholds the high standards established by our founders.

When a spill happens, your containment system is the last line of defence.

Polyurethane coatings are one of the most effective ways to reinforce spill containment curbs and secondary containment areas and for good reason. These systems show up everywhere hazardous materials are handled: food manufacturing facilities, chemical plants, pharmaceutical operations, product filling stations, warehouses, and general industrial environments.

Containment curbs take a beating. Heavy machinery, constant chemical exposure, and harsh environmental conditions all work against them over time. A high-performance polyurethane coating creates a seamless, waterproof barrier that protects against corrosion, abrasion, and deterioration keeping hazardous liquids exactly where they're supposed to be.

Beyond protection, it's also about compliance. Environmental regulations around hazardous material containment are strict, and the consequences of failing them are costly. Polyurethane-reinforced containment systems help facilities stay on the right side of those regulations while significantly reducing long-term maintenance expenses and extending the life of the concrete structure underneath.

Safer facilities. Lower costs. Longer-lasting infrastructure. That's the value of doing it right. Feel free to contact us at (780)-466-3101 or check out our website at descoalberta.com.

Excellence Doesn't Start On The Job Site It Starts Right Here At Home

At Desco, we regularly transform our shop yard into a dedicated training environment, and we do it intentionally. Because when your team is prepared, confident, and working with equipment they know inside and out, it shows in every single project.

Here's what in-house training means to us:

Safety first, always. Training in a controlled environment means our crews are deeply familiar with every piece of equipment, every safety protocol, and every potential hazard before they ever set foot on a client's floor. Safety isn't a checklist for us it's a culture.

Sharpening the team. The coatings industry never stops evolving, and neither do we. These hands-on sessions give our veterans a chance to refine their skills and give our newer crew members the opportunity to learn the Desco way from the people who built it.

Better training, better results. Equipment mastery translates directly to quality outcomes. From precision grinding to complex sprayer setups, a well-prepared team delivers the consistent, high standard finishes our clients have come to expect from us.

Taking care of our tools. Our equipment is the backbone of everything we do. Proper training on maintenance and daily care keeps our gear performing at its best, reducing downtime and keeping every project running on schedule.

We believe that the time we invest in our team today builds a stronger, safer, and more capable Desco tomorrow for our crew, our clients, and every project we take on together.

Is the Spring Melt Threatening Your Facility’s Foundation?

As the snow disappears, water becomes a "detective" finding every hidden crack and failing joint in your concrete. Those small drips aren't just an inconvenience; they are an active threat to your facility’s structural integrity.

Between constant vehicular traffic and the seasonal influx of water and salt, parkades endure immense mechanical stress. Left untreated, infiltration accelerates corrosion and leads to costly structural compromises.

Here are those steps we took to complete a full restoration to ensure long-term durability:

- Precision Repairs: We removed all deteriorated concrete, replacing it with high-early-strength cementitious repair mortar infused with corrosion inhibitors.

- Advanced Protection: We applied a multi-step high-tensile-strength traffic deck waterproofing system. This provides moisture resistance and chemical protection while improving traction for driver safety.

The Bottom Line: Maintenance isn't an expense; it’s an investment. Regular professional inspections by third-party engineers catch issues early and extend the lifespan of your asset.

At Desco, we’re committed to keeping structures safe, functional, and built to last. Feel free to contact us at (780)-466-3101 or check out our website at descoalberta.com
