The excessive heat was caused by the homeowner installing a higher wattage bulb than the socket was rated for. This would be the worst case I’ve seen so far with one of the most common and dangerous homeowner mistakes.

This was a close call and was only discovered when the appliance was replaced.
All homes over 25 years old should have an electrical tune-up.
