Tree care isn’t always about taking trees down. Sometimes, it’s about putting the right one back in.

For this front yard makeover, we planted a baby Dropmore Linden to replace trees that had previously been removed and bring some new life back to the space.

Fall can be a great time to plant, but at this point in the season, sooner is better than later. The colder weather is coming fast, and getting new trees in before the ground freezes gives them a better chance to settle in.

Thinking about adding or replacing a tree on your property? Give Foy Tree Care a call and we can see whether there’s still time for a last-minute fall planting job, or if it makes more sense to plan it for spring.

This spruce removal was just one part of the work we completed on this property that day.

Because the tree was growing close to the house and in a tight space, it couldn’t simply be dropped. We climbed the tree, removed the top, and brought it down in smaller sections to help protect the home and the surrounding trees.

Before getting started, we also checked for signs of wildlife and made sure the area was safe to work in.

And the spruce wasn’t the only tree on the list. During the same visit, we also pruned the crab apple tree on the property to help preserve it and maintain the privacy it provides.

From careful removals to pruning and ongoing tree care, Foy Tree Care can handle the different needs across your property. Give us a call if your trees need attention.

Not every tree needs the same solution.

Sometimes it’s removal. Sometimes it’s pruning, maintenance, planting, or simply getting a professional opinion on what makes the most sense for your property.

Foy Tree Care can help with the full picture, not just one part of the job.

Have trees that need attention? Give us a call and let’s take a look.

Are there issues with trees that become more apparent when the leaves change and fall off? Absolutely!

Once the canopy thins out, structural issues like broken branches, split unions, and other defects can be much easier to spot.

Bark damage and visible signs of disease, including black knot, can also stand out more clearly without leaves getting in the way.

That’s one reason fall and the dormant season can be such a useful time to assess your trees and plan any maintenance they may need.

Noticing something that doesn’t look right? Give Foy Tree Care a call and we can take a closer look.

Elm pruning season is officially open!

Elm trees can’t be pruned during the summer because fresh cuts can attract elm bark beetles, which may carry Dutch elm disease. That’s why elm pruning is restricted to the colder months, from October through the end of March.

This seasonal window helps reduce the risk of spreading the disease and plays an important role in protecting Edmonton’s elm population.

So now’s the time to get those elms taken care of, and we’d rather get to them before the snow does.

Have an elm that needs pruning? Give Foy Tree Care a call and let’s get it on the schedule.

Some tree advice gets repeated so often that it eventually starts sounding like a rule.

One of the most common examples Ed hears is the idea that you should apply a pruning wound spray or paste over a fresh cut to help the tree heal.

Trees don’t actually work that way.

Wound dressings were once widely recommended and marketed as a way to “protect” or “heal” pruning cuts. But research has shown they don’t help the tree recover—and in many cases, they can do more harm than good.

Instead of protecting the wound, these products can trap moisture against the exposed wood, which can actually encourage decay rather than prevent it.

What makes sense for trees depends on the species, condition, location and what’s happening around that particular tree.

Ed breaks down this common myth and explains why proper pruning technique matters more than any product you put on the cut.

Have you heard tree advice you’ve always wondered about? Leave it in the comments. We may tackle it in a future video.

There’s a difference between knowing how to cut a tree and understanding how trees grow, respond to pruning and should be managed over time.

That matters when someone is recommending whether your tree should be pruned, monitored, supported or removed.

ISA certification gives homeowners one way to understand the professional knowledge and education behind the person assessing their tree.

If you’re choosing an arborist in Edmonton, don’t be afraid to ask who will actually be assessing your tree and what qualifications they have.

Thinking about planting a tree this fall? Now’s the time to get it in the ground.

Fall can be a great season for planting because cooler temperatures can help reduce transplant shock. With less heat, water also isn’t evaporating as quickly, so newly planted trees generally don’t need quite as much watering as they would during the hottest part of summer.

That said, we like to have fall planting wrapped up by around mid-October, before frost starts becoming a regular part of the forecast.

With October just around the corner, the sooner we can get your tree planted and settling in, the better.

We don’t just remove and prune trees. We help plant them too!

Choosing a tree isn’t only about finding one you like. It’s about finding a species that makes sense for your property, the space available, and what you want the area to look like over time.

We can talk through your vision, take a look at the property, and recommend options that make sense for the space.

Sometimes good tree care starts long before there’s anything to prune.

Choosing an arborist shouldn’t feel like being pushed toward one option.

Ed’s advice is to look for someone who listens to your concerns, explains what they’re seeing and gives you honest options for your tree.

Sometimes pruning may address the issue. Sometimes another approach makes sense. And if removal is being recommended, you should understand why.

For Foy Tree Care, transparency is a big part of the conversation.

When choosing an arborist, look for someone who listens, explains your options and tells you why they’re recommending them.
