Final structural steel review at EPCOR's Poundmaker substation. The transformer (shown sitting on the concrete pad) will step down the voltage from 240 kV to 72 kV. Overhead power lines will exit the substation from the top of that gigantic A-frame structure and carry electricity to the Meadowlark substation.

Just finished up another 72 kV breaker replacement for EPCOR. New structural steel channels get field welded to existing 6" deep I-beams and they are good to go! The breaker legs get bolted to the new steel in the field.

Renovation project for . The work involves new steel beams to replace existing load bearing walls on the main floor. We had to get creative with the beam connections, but the end result should look pretty clean!

Having fun working on this mono stringer stair with open risers! Using tube steel for the stringer and uprights with solid 3" oak for the treads. Pan head screws will connect the steel plates to the treads for a clean look from below. The welded steel assembly will be painted black to contrast with the light oak.

This is a heritage home renovation and expansion project we are working on in Westmount. The existing roof is getting completely demolished and replaced with a new stick-framed, wood roof structure complete with dormers. The attic will now be used as a living space so the floor requires reinforcing to support the heavier load.

We are also designing a new foundation that will replace the existing brick on concrete foundation. The home will be temporarily jacked, the new foundation installed, and the house lowered down. Should be interesting to watch!

EPCOR Poundmaker rebar review Part 2. The crew is buttoning up the formwork for the pad and walls of the 240 kV transformer containment pit. Everything is on schedule for pouring concrete at the end of the week!

Rebar inspection at EPCOR's Poundmaker substation. This is the base slab of an oil containment pit for a new 240 kV transformer. The slab is supported by 50 ft long (approx.) steel screw piles. Next up is the rebar, formwork, and concrete placement for the containment walls and transformer pad. Construction is on track for transformer placement at the end of the month.

Here is another load bearing wall removal project we are working on. Red shows the existing structure being demo'd and replaced with:

- LVL flush beam to support the roof.
- steel drop beam to support the main floor.
- heavy duty telepost and pad footing in the basement to support all the above.

The steel beam helps to keep the beam depth down to 8", optimizing headroom in the basement below this 20 ft beam span.

This is a new reinforced concrete stair we are working on for Building Science Engineering (BSE). The stair, along with the new door opening through the existing grade beam, will provide exterior access for new mechanical equipment at Salvation Army Grace Manor.

We located the opening adjacent to existing piles to minimize the structural impact to the grade beams. We are going with steel screw piles given the challenges of installing concrete piles next to an open excavation. Voidform will be provided below the entire assembly to mitigate the effects of seasonal frost heave and the potential swell of high plastic clays.

Here is another custom home in Crestwood we are working on. The biggest challenge for this one is figuring out how to transfer lateral wind and seismic loads down to the foundation... Typically we would use wood shearwalls, but with this many openings we'll have to get creative!

We are working on this wood framed shop for a client in Beaver County, AB. The superstructure consists of engineered wood roof trusses supported by stud bearing/shear walls. The foundation utilizes reinforced concrete grade beams on steel screw piles.
