What to do when you are surprised by water damage? 💧

TO DO:

✅Call a disaster restoration company (like Steamatic).
✅Remove as much excess water as possible by mopping and sponging.
✅Wipe excess water from wood furniture.
✅Place wet cushions in a safe area.
✅Remove all colored rugs from wet carpeting.
✅Gather scattered items on the floor and put them up.

DON'T:

❌Do not enter areas where water is near electrical outlets or appliances or anywhere where water has stagnated.
❌Do not leave wet fabrics in place.
❌Do not leave books or other colored objects on site.
❌Do not use appliances, including vacuums, televisions, and any ceiling installations.

Here is a quick reference for early detection that will hopefully help prevent a sewer backup in your home. Do you know what to do to prevent water damage in your home from flooding?

- Install downspout extensions that will carry water away from the house
- Make sure your gutters are free of debris
- Replace your shingles every 15 to 20 years, especially if you are in an area at risk
- Check that your drains let the water run and that nothing is blocking them
- If your home does not have shut-off valves, consider installing them as a precaution
-Pay attention to the seals of your doors and windows. Make sure they are well sealed
- Check your plumbing for cracks or corrosion. If you notice anything, get a professional to replace the problematic pipe as soon as possible
- Seal any cracks in the walls or foundations of your home to prevent water infiltration
- Replace your water tank every 10 to 15 years and inspect it from time to time for corrosion.
