Your “leather interior” is NOT genuine leather
Quite often we have customers stating that they have a “leather interior” in their vehicles. Unfortunately, quite often that is false. It is very rare for a vehicle to have a full leather interior. - for instance Rolls Royce do. There may be a small piece of leather somewhere on they seat (often the insert) but the seat as a whole will not be.
Here is some info about leather vs vinyl that helps decipher the two;
* Leather gets softer over time – vinyl gets harder
* Leather breathes so it stays cool in summer and warm in winter – vinyl does not breathe and is cold in winter and hot in summer
* Leather has a suede-like backing – vinyl has cloth or foam of some sort
* Leather comes as a hide (odd-shaped depending on the animal) – vinyl is on a roll (anything on a roll is NOT leather)
* Leather is very strong and durable, lasting 30+ years – good vinyl will last 10-15 years (depending on the use) – low-grade vinyl will become hard and begin to crack after just a few years.
* Leather has a distinct smell. Vinyl does not.
* In the cold, vinyl gets hard and stiff. Leather stays soft and supple
