This is one of the most exciting stages of a basement development…

because this is when you can finally start to feel the space.

Before drywall, everything is open. You’re looking at framing, wires, insulation, and it can be hard to picture how it’s all going to come together.

But once drywall goes up, things change fast.

You can start to walk through the rooms and actually understand the layout.
You can see where walls close in and where spaces open up.
You can get a real sense of how everything will flow day to day.

Standing in the space at this stage, it starts to feel less like a construction site…

and more like a future living space.

This project in Summerside is right at that turning point.

The rooms are taking shape, the layout is coming to life, and you can finally start to picture what the finished basement is going to feel like.

There’s still a lot of work ahead, mudding, sanding, paint, flooring, trim, and finishing details but, this is the stage where everything really starts to click.

From here, it only gets better!

One of the most noticeable parts of a finished basement…

is the flooring.

Not just how it looks, but how it feels and holds up over time.

Flooring is something you interact with every day. Walking on it, cleaning it, moving furniture across it. So the right choice can make a big difference in how easy the space is to live with.

That’s why things like durability, comfort, and room transitions matter when planning basement floors.

Common options we install in basements include:

• LVP for durability and easy maintenance
• carpet for warmth and comfort in bedrooms or living areas
• tile in bathrooms and around wet bars

Each option has its place depending on how the basement will be used.

Another detail that makes a big difference is how flooring flows between rooms. Clean transitions and consistent layouts can make the entire basement feel more intentional and connected.

When flooring is chosen and installed properly, it does more than just finish the space.

it helps the basement feel comfortable, practical, and ready for everyday use.

Because good flooring shouldn’t just look good on day one.

It should hold up for years to come.

One stage that quietly changes how an entire basement feels…

is millwork.

This is when doors, trim, and baseboards get installed. Up until this point the basement might look close to finished, but it can still feel a bit like a construction space.

Millwork is what helps tie everything together.

Once the trim and doors go in, the walls feel more complete and the space starts to look like real finished rooms.

And this is one of those stages where small details make a big difference.

Things like:

• straight trim lines
• consistent spacing
• clean corners and joints
• properly aligned doors

When those details are done well, everything feels solid and finished.

When they aren’t… little imperfections can start to stand out.

The interesting thing about good millwork is that you usually don’t notice it at all.

It just feels right.

Doors open smoothly.
Trim lines look clean.
Everything flows together.

And that’s exactly the goal.

It’s one of the final stages that turns a basement from “almost done” into a space that truly feels like part of the home.

Swipe to see this shower transformation →

The first photo shows the original tub and shower setup before the renovation. It worked but the space felt smaller and a bit dated.

During the renovation we removed the tub and redesigned the space around a larger walk-in shower to make the bathroom feel more open and functional.

The new layout allowed for:

• a full glass shower enclosure
• large tile for a cleaner look
• updated fixtures and finishes
• a space that feels bigger and brighter

Sometimes a bathroom doesn’t actually need more square footage… it just needs a better layout and updated finishes.

Little changes in design can completely change how the space feels once everything comes together.

Scroll through to see how this bathroom went from standard tub/shower combo to modern walk-in shower.

One small paint detail can change how an entire basement looks.

It’s also one of the easiest places for small mistakes to show up later.

Because basement lighting tends to highlight everything.

The way the surface is prepared, the primer that’s used, and how the paint is applied all play a big role in the final result.

If those steps aren’t done properly, you can end up seeing things like:

• patchy spots in certain lighting
• areas that look shinier or duller than others
• small drywall imperfections that suddenly stand out

A lot of that comes down to the prep work before the paint even goes on the wall.

Things like proper sanding, priming, and consistent application help create a smooth finish that looks good from every angle.

Colour choices also make a difference.

In basements, lighter and thoughtful colour selections can help reflect light better and make the space feel brighter and more open.

Paint is usually done in multiple stages during a basement project, but once everything is complete it’s the step that really helps tie the entire space together.

When it’s done well, the basement stops feeling like a construction project…

and starts feeling like a finished part of the home.
