I think it’s about time to share the story behind Birch River Gardens and introduce myself 👋🏻
My name is Alex and I grow cut flowers on a small plot in East Braintree with my husband Dylan. I first started growing cut flowers in pots on our deck, as we didn’t have our own property or garden yet, for our wedding in 2024. I was instantly hooked and knew I wanted to be a flower farmer. This dream became a reality in 2025 when we bought our current property and got to work building the farm!
My background in environmental science has steered our business towards regenerative farming practices and a core value of sustainability. This means that we do not use chemicals, pesticides or synthetic fertilizers so that we can build healthy living soil that supports the local wildlife and pollinators. We also use local flowers whenever possible to reduce our carbon footprint and to be able to offer the freshest flowers in specialty varieties that can often only be found locally. Local flowers offer us a lesson in presence and patience (a difficult lesson for me 😅). They last for a short window before fading, and are tied to the local weather, soil and season.
Flower farming and selling bouquets has been such a fun way to connect with our community and express my creativity. We’re very grateful for all of the support and encouragement we’ve received after the opening of the farm stand and we can’t wait to continue to spread the joy of local flowers through the stand and elsewhere!
