NANAIMO — The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) reports a blaze burning at the base of Mt. Arrowsmith near Port Alberni has reached 20 hectares in size. The fire was discovered on Saturday just off the Cameron Main Logging Rd. on the western base of the mountain.

We are now accepting applications for seasonal employment as wildland fire fighters!
Interested applicants must be at least 18 years of age and be physically fit. Suitable applicants must pass a fitness test to be eligible for employment.
The following skills are considered assets for the wildland fire fighting positions:
Occupational First Aid Levels 1 or 3
OFA Transportation Endorsement
S-100 Basic Fire Suppression and Safety course
S-185 Fire Entrapment Avoidance course
Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) certification Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) certification
Power Saw Operator training
Wildfire Danger Tree Assessment certification
