What does it actually mean to build a Net Zero home?

At our Quamichan Lake project, it means designing a home to produce as much energy as it uses over the course of a year.

Solar panels are part of that equation, but much of what makes a Net Zero home perform so well is less visible: high levels of insulation, airtight construction, efficient heating and cooling, and high-performance windows.

The result? A home designed for year-round comfort and energy efficiency, without compromising the way it looks or feels.

And this one happens to have a pretty incredible lake setting too.

Two cottages. One long-term vision for this Thetis Island property.

These two custom cottages were designed as part of a larger plan for the property, creating beautiful, functional spaces that can welcome family and guests today, while leaving room for a future main home.

There’s a little full-circle story here too. One of our project managers who helped bring these cottages to life recently returned to Thetis Island for his daughter’s wedding, and she stayed in one of the cottages.

Seeing a space you helped build become part of your own family’s memories is pretty special. We love that.

The details that make The Cove feel like home.

Custom millwork runs throughout this house, bringing warmth and character to spaces designed for very different parts of the day. It’s beautiful up close, but it also has a practical job: giving everyday things a place to belong.

The Cove was recognized at this year’s CARE Awards, including People’s Choice and Best Custom Home, but no home like this is built by one company alone.

From the first days on site to framing, mechanical, windows, roofing, stonework, millwork, cabinetry, flooring, tile, electrical, plumbing, finishing, landscaping and every detail in between, this home represents the work of an incredible group of trades, suppliers and craftspeople.

We get to put Made to Last’s name on the finished home, but there are a whole lot of talented people behind it.

To everyone who had a hand in building The Cove: thank you. These awards belong to you, too.

Three homes. Multiple nominations. One very proud team.

We’re honoured to have The Crest, Sevenfold and The Cove named as finalists in the 2026 CARE Awards-recognized across categories including new home design, outdoor living, kitchen design, custom millwork, residential interiors and Project of the Year.

Made to Last Custom Homes is also a finalist for Best Customer Service, an honour that reflects the care and commitment of our entire team.

These homes represent years of collaboration between our homeowners, designers, trades and team. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who trusted us to bring them to life.
