February 2019. Did anyone experience a frozen septic tank?? Would you like to avoid that experience this year? One simple tip for maintaining your septic system in cold weather is to insulate your septic tank. Please note that all materials need to be resistant to water absorption, for obvious reasons! Also, if your system is not being used regularly throughout the winter, insulating may actual delay the spring thaw.

A thorough article has been attached for your educational pleasure.

Did you know that grass acts as a filter or a buffer to retain soil from a disturbed site? Once finished with construction, you should seed as soon as possible to establish grass cover. Other simple things you can do (either alone or in tandem) to reduce or eliminate erosion are as follows:
1) Apply a natural or artificial mulch, such as wood chips or a fabric covering. These both absorb storm water runoff and are effective as soon as they are applied.
2) A silt fence or straw bale barricade. These are a temporary barrier and should be entrenched and anchored - so they don't flow away as well! These methods are used to intercept runoff and to provide some retention of sediment from small drainage areas.
