Today—April 28—marks National Day of Mourning, a sombre day to remember workers killed, injured or made ill on the job and to renew a commitment to creating safer workplaces.

Across TNDC, we take this time to remember those workers and reaffirm our commitment to ensuring everyone we work with goes home safe.

This is not just a day of reflection. It is a reminder of the responsibility we carry every day across our teams, worksites and operations. TNDC is committed to ensuring a safe work environment for our employees and everyone we work with. Safety First, Safety Always is a core value that guides everything we do.

WHY IT MATTERS
Every injury, illness and fatality is preventable. Behind each statistic is a person, coworker, family member, friend, and loved one.

In 2025, 138 workers in British Columbia lost their lives due to workplace injury or occupational disease, including:
- 59 fatalities from traumatic injury
- 79 fatalities from occupational disease

These losses continue to be felt across our industry and communities we serve. They are a powerful reminder that safety must be a constant priority in how we plan, perform and carry out our work every day.

FOSTERING A SAFE WORKPLACE
Our 2026 motto, Safety Lives in Our Actions emphasizes that safety is not just a principle, but something we demonstrate every day.

This message serves as a reminder that safety is a shared responsibility and commitment that must be embraced by every member of our team to prevent incidents, increase risk awareness, and promote safe positive behaviors. Each action we take on the job has a direct role in ensuring that both us as individuals and our coworkers return home safely at the end of every shift.

We foster a strong safety culture built on training, support and mentorship. Our Certificate of Recognition (COR) through WorkSafeBC reflects our commitment, but our standard goes beyond compliance. Our expectation is clear: zero incidents, zero injuries. Every worker, every shift.

MOMENT OF SILENCE
To honour this sombre occasion, our TNDC team will be reflecting on safety, holding a moment of silence, and pledging their commitment to safety.

WORK UNDERWAY AT TAHLTAN IR13 IN DEASE LAKE

The Tahltan Band Council IR13 Dease Lake Subdivision Phase 1 project is now underway, with TNDC supporting project delivery.

Crews are clearing and grubbing approximately 1.6 km of road right of way, starting near Hotel Creek Pit #2085 and moving west toward Dease Lake Avenue (Float Plane Base Road).

Please stay clear of active work areas.

BC Critical Minerals Forum | April 14–15

At the BC Critical Minerals Forum, Tahltan Nation Development Corporation (TNDC) CEO Todd den Engelsen joined leaders from mining, finance, First Nations, and government in Vancouver.

Todd delivered a plenary presentation, A Model for Co-Developing Critical Minerals, to more than 350 senior leaders, highlighting the role TNDC is playing in advancing project delivery and strengthening the path from development to market.

He also joined the panel Indigenous-Led Infrastructure in the Northwest, alongside Andy Robinson and John Mullally, moderated by Roger Harris.

The discussion focused on how Indigenous-led infrastructure is improving project certainty and strengthening supply chains across Northwest BC. This includes Portland Canal Holdings, a partnership between TNDC, Nisga’a, and Arrow Transportation Systems, advancing transportation corridors and port access that support the full path from mine to market.

Projects move faster and perform better when they are built on respect, alignment, and long-term partnerships.

TNDC is pleased to announce the promotions of Gavin Day to HEO Training Superintendent and Jennifer Hanak to Vice President, People & Safety.

Gavin has been with TNDC as a Heavy Equipment Operator Trainer and has played a key role in developing operator capacity across our projects. In his new role, he will lead the HEO Training department, overseeing program delivery, supporting trainer development, and ensuring training remains aligned with operational needs and safety standards. Gavin will continue to strengthen the consistency, quality, and long-term impact of our training programs while supporting the growth of a skilled workforce.

Jennifer has been with TNDC as Director, Health, Safety & Environment and most recently served as Interim Human Resources Director. In her new role as Vice President, People & Safety, she will lead an integrated approach across Human Resources, HSE, workforce development, and corporate culture.

Jennifer will focus on building a strong, safe, and aligned organization, supporting both current operations and future growth while ensuring the well-being of our people remains central to how we operate.
