What actually happens after sunlight hits your solar panels? ⚡

A lot of homeowners understand that solar can lower their electricity bills, but aren’t completely sure how the system actually works. So we put together a quick explanation.

Your panels generate electricity during the day; your home uses that solar power first, and your connection to the grid takes care of the difference when you need more power than the system is producing. When your system produces more than the home needs, a net-metering structure can allow that excess energy to create credits that help offset future electricity usage.

Does solar actually work during a Nova Scotia winter? ❄️

Absolutely, but there’s another important part of the story: Net Metering.

During the longer, sunnier summer months, your solar system can produce more electricity than your home is using. Under Nova Scotia’s net-metering program, that excess generation can earn 1:1 electricity credits that can then help offset your electricity usage during the lower-production winter months.
