Five floors. 19 homes. Windows in, siding done. 🏗️

At 90 Pinecrest Dr. in Dartmouth, DORA is building one- and two-bedroom homes for Tawaak Housing Association, a non-profit that has been providing affordable housing across Nova Scotia since 1981.

Every one of these will be somebody’s front door. We’re honoured to be building them with Tawaak.

Planning a housing project of your own? Let’s talk.

Guess what's going inside The New Dawn Youth and Family Centre in Glace Bay 🛹

An indoor skate bowl, built for year-round sessions, because Cape Breton winters wait for no one.

It's just one of the standout features of this community building , DORA and are bringing to Glace Bay.

A first glimpse of our newest affordable housing community.

Solar panels overhead. Courtyards made for neighbours. Homes built solid.

The full showcase is coming soon but until then, what should we show you first: the homes, the courtyard, or the story behind the build? 👇

⛪ A restoration project is underway at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lunenburg, home to Canada's oldest Lutheran congregation.

Our work covers the main sanctuary roof and the 41-metre steeple: stripping the old shingles, then installing new sheathing, roof wrap, step flashing, and new architectural shingles.

The back side of the sanctuary roof is complete, and our team is now working on the steeple and custom details for the church, including new spire crosses.

Work like this is about preserving the craftsmanship that went into this building decades ago.

More to come as the project nears completion.

📣 Project update: the volumetric modules for the upcoming childcare facility StFX University have have been craned into place!

The Eastcut team manufactured these units in their controlled production environment in Trenton, with interior finishes already in place, before delivering them to site. DORA’s team now takes over on-site construction.

This is one of three modular childcare facilities we’re delivering across the province, with builds also underway at Cape Breton University and in Inverness, helping make childcare more accessible for parents, caregivers, students, and faculty.

👉 Stay tuned as these modules come together.

A new building envelope is taking shape at Olivet Street! 🏢

Recladding is a specialized part of what we do at DORA. On this apartment building, we’re keeping the existing brick walls in place and installing the new exterior over them, including 3 inches of stone wool insulation, adding approximately R-12 for thermal resistance. This means warmer winters and cooler summers for residents.

A renewed envelope means better energy efficiency, improved comfort, and a longer life for a building that’s already a part of the community.

Stay tuned for the final results as work comes together!

🏗️ 5 things worth knowing about offsite construction:

1) It’s not lower quality, in fact it’s higher quality.
Everything is built in a controlled environment to tighter tolerances than a typical job site, so it shows up on site precise and consistent.

2) It’s a quicker way to build.
While Eastcut builds off site, DORA works on site to prepare it at the same time. Both happening at once instead of waiting on one another.

3) It’s not just for small builds.
Modular off site construction has allowed us to build four-storey apartment buildings, and only continues to grow.

4) There is no guesswork.
BIM connects design, manufacturing and site install early, so the details are worked out digitally before construction even begins.

5) There is less risk involved.
More work happens indoors, off the ground, and not weather dependent.

Offsite construction isn’t a shortcut, but a smarter way to build.

Not all projects are measured in storeys or square footage.

We're proud of the quality and craftsmanship that goes into every project, but this one is worth highlighting: our millwork team brought a custom fluted design throughout Daisy Jo’s Boutique in the heart of downtown Dartmouth, from the checkout island to the display pedestals and storage cabinetry.

Every piece was designed and constructed in-house, with the same detailing carried through the space for a cohesive, custom look from front door to fitting room.

The same precision that goes into all our builds carries through at any scale, whether it’s 90 housing units, or the fit-up of a storefront.

Proud to have brought this level of detail to a local business supporting the communities we live in.

We build solid. 🩵

🏥 Construction is underway on three new renal dialysis healthcare centres across Nova Scotia, in Springhill, Shelburne, and Evanston, bringing specialized care closer to home for rural communities.

Dialysis treatment means several long sessions weekly, and for many rural Nova Scotians, that also means hours of driving to get to and from care. These new centres add the capacity that's been missing.

DORA and Eastcut are delivering these facilities together as one team. At Eastcut's Trenton facility, the volumetric modules are being manufactured off-site, complete with interior finishes and mechanical and electrical systems. At the same time, DORA's team is on site at each location completing site preparation, ready to receive and crane the modules into place once they arrive.

Through this parallel workflow, with factory production and site work happening at the same time, we’re able to get these healthcare facilities open to patients sooner, without compromising the quality these kinds of projects deserve.

We’re proud to help bring care closer to home.

🏗️ Stay tuned for more updates to come!
