Well I definitely got the hair right…

My mom sent me this assignment she kept from my grade 2 class.

I’m quite certain grade 2 was the last time I had ever given any thought to being a carpenter, up until I turned 23 and somehow slipped and found myself with a tool pouch on.

But here I am! Building stuff and getting along.

Have yet to travel in a rocket, but I’m hopeful.

Sometimes I leave at lunch.. and my guys who have seen this still make fun of me for it.

I’ll never calorically recover from this…
Shabbat Shalom. Rest up! Sit still. Try to squeeze out a laugh. The end may be much closer than you’d like to believe!
My favourite concept around Shabbat (sabbath) is the idea that God doesn’t dwell in man made temples but has established a “cathedral of time” in the sabbath day. As the sabbath day approaches, we are enveloped by his time cathedral, and find ourself inside of it whether we tried to get there or not. We can ignore its presence if we so choose, but it is here regardless, and He would love to hang out with his children.

Rushmore and crazy horse were cool. But America has so many mountains. There really should be more face mountains. Would that be facing a mountain or defacing a mountain? This one is Devils Tower Wyoming in Wyoming. SO FRIGGIN COOL. Worth every one of the 15 hours it took to drive there.. (please keep it faceless btw!)

Ps.. can you imagine the size of the saw blade it took to cut that beast of a tree down?

It’s the human condition really.. we’re all just trying to grow gardens in spaces polluted by garbage, baggage, and cast away relics of better times, in soil too hard and dry and cracked to take the good water offered to us as common grace. Send the saints to voicemail, call mom back later, turn the volume up, seek a new distraction, a distractiony-er distraction this time, stifling the spirit’s screams and living like a whimper. Yet the Waterer still waters. The good seed still grows. It just grows out of place, and amiss from where it can feed those hearts it was intended to from time immemorial. “Please excuse the mess” might as well hang on the prayer closet door.
