Have you ever wondered why we measure the thickness of flooring before it is removed?

Because the replacement floor does not just have to look right. It also has to fit back into the space properly.

WINMAR® Kootenay records the thickness of the existing flooring so homeowners can choose a replacement with a similar profile where possible. If the new floor is thicker, it can affect door clearances, transitions, baseboards, and casings.

That may mean undercutting door frames or moving and reinstalling trim to accommodate the new height. Depending on the claim and policy, those additional modifications may not always be covered.

A small difference in flooring thickness can create a much bigger rebuild detail later.

Would you have thought a few millimetres of flooring height could affect this much of the room?

Have you ever seen a restoration job finish beautifully, only to notice scratches or damage on the floors afterward?

We cannot overemphasize the importance of floor protection.

During mitigation and rebuild, WINMAR® Nelson uses durable surface protection to create controlled pathways for technicians, trades, tools, and equipment. Seams are taped, edges are secured, and high-traffic areas are covered so finished flooring is protected from grit, fasteners, spills, and everyday jobsite wear.

It may look like a simple setup, but this preparation helps prevent secondary damage, reduces cleanup, and keeps unaffected areas looking the way they did before the work began.

Good restoration is not only about repairing what was damaged. It is also about protecting everything that was not.

What would bother you more after a rebuild: a missed repair or a brand-new scratch in an unaffected floor?

Have you ever wondered why asbestos waste gets its own dedicated bin instead of going in with regular demolition debris?

Because once asbestos-containing material is removed and properly bagged, it still needs to stay clearly separated and controlled through transport and disposal.

WINMAR® Kootenay arranges dedicated bins for asbestos waste and identifies them with visible caution ribbon and hazard markings so there is no confusion about what is inside. That helps prevent accidental mixing, keeps the waste stream organized, and supports proper handling from the jobsite to the approved disposal facility.

The containment does not end when the material leaves the room. It continues all the way through storage, transport, and final disposal.

Would you have guessed the bin itself becomes part of the abatement control process?

Have you ever wondered how we make sure every little piece goes back where it belongs after a rebuild?

Doors, cabinets, trim, and other finishes can have a surprising amount of hardware attached to them. Hinges, handles, screws, strike plates, brackets, and specialty fasteners are easy to mix up once demolition and reconstruction are underway.

WINMAR® Nelson keeps key hardware in clearly labelled sample bags on site so the original components stay organized and tied to the correct room or item.

That helps our reconstruction team reinstall materials accurately, reduces the chance of missing pieces, and avoids unnecessary replacement of perfectly good hardware.

It is a small organizational step, but it can save a lot of time later.

Would you have guessed that something as simple as a labelled bag can help keep an entire rebuild moving smoothly?

Have you ever noticed how one crooked paint line can make an otherwise great room look unfinished?

Clean tape lines matter.

During rebuild, WINMAR® Kootenay uses careful masking and preparation to create sharp transitions between ceilings, walls, trim, and adjacent finishes. Good tape work helps keep paint where it belongs, reduces touch-ups, and gives the final coat a cleaner, more professional appearance.

The painting itself is only part of the job. Surface prep, masking, edge work, and timing all affect the finished result.

Restoration is full of details that most people never notice when they are done properly. A crisp paint line is one of them.

What catches your eye first in a freshly painted room: the colour or the quality of the finish?

Have you ever wondered what the last step of a restoration rebuild looks like before the space is handed back?

It is the final clean.

After drywall, sanding, painting, flooring, trim, and multiple trades have moved through the space, there is always fine dust and construction debris left behind. WINMAR® Nelson completes a final clean so the restored area is not just repaired, but ready to be used again.

That means wiping surfaces, vacuuming and cleaning floors, removing construction residue, checking corners and edges, and making sure the work area is left neat and presentable.

It is a small part of the overall project, but it makes a big difference. The goal is for the homeowner to walk back into a finished space, not a finished construction site.

What is the first thing you notice when you walk into a newly renovated room: the finishes or how clean it is?

Have you ever noticed how much work happens before demolition actually starts?

Removing a ceiling begins with protecting everything that is staying.

Before work starts, WINMAR® Kootenay protects finished flooring and covers or isolates contents that could be exposed to dust, debris, or accidental damage. Floor protection is taped and overlapped to create a durable work surface, while larger contents can be wrapped in poly so they remain on site without becoming part of the cleanup.

Good preparation makes the actual demolition cleaner, safer, and more efficient. It also helps reduce unnecessary handling of contents and limits the chance of creating new damage while repairing the original loss.

The ceiling may be what we are removing, but protecting the rest of the room is just as important.

What would you be most concerned about protecting during demolition: your floors, furniture, or both?
