🚧 Heads up, drivers! 🚧
Work zone speed limits still apply even when no crews are in sight. Those reduced speeds protect you from hidden dangers like uneven pavement, tight lanes, or missing shoulders and markings.

But if the signs are covered or turned off, and the road is clear, you’re good to go at the regular posted speed.

Weather Advisory - Thunderstorm Warning Throughout Service Area

Environment Canada has issued a Yellow Watch for Severe Thunderstorms. Storms could produce strong wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rain across the East Kootenay Service Area.

Thunderstorms are expected to develop late this afternoon and persist into the evening hours. Damage to roofs, fences, branches, or soft shelters is possible.

Strong winds can cause debris to fall on roadways. Large amounts of rain can cause pooling water. Mainroad crews will be patrolling the Service Area, clearing catch basins, and attending to debris on roadways until the event passes.

Drivers are reminded to slow down and drive to conditions. Posted speed limits are for ideal conditions, and stormy weather is not ideal. Check www.DriveBC.ca for road conditions and updates.

You can support them by:

👀 Making eye contact so they know you see them
🚗 Stopping at least one car length away from a traffic control worker
🧘 Staying calm, patient, and respectful

You might need to merge into another lane as you get close to a work zone. When that happens, using a zipper‑style merge helps both lanes blend smoothly and keeps traffic moving more efficiently.

If you see a merge sign:
- avoid sudden lane changes.
- watch for a safe opening, shift over gradually, and merge early so you have enough space and time to do it safely.
- waiting can put you at risk of hitting cones, barriers, workers, or drifting into the work zone.

Never go into any area that’s blocked off by cones, barriers, or other traffic‑control devices.🚧
